Bex: Rare monsters in past league content is something we'll review for 3.19.
Also, Bex: In the meantime, we'll continue to review the individual balance for Archnemesis modifiers.

" "In the meantime, we'll continue to review the individual balance for Archnemesis modifiers." Meaning they might. Not that "nothing else will be done" |

This volley of nerfs is probably the last. If it's not enough for you, consider the league scuffed, and check back in 2.5 months. Their 3 month dev cycle makes big sweeping changes very unlikely in the middle of the league. It just doesn't make sense to spend a lot of time and resources on something that will soon be obsolete.
Sucks for sentinel league, since the league mechanic is great, but them's the breaks. It's really quite a shame archnemesis bricked it so badly, since it would probably have been a great league otherwise. Украина в моём сердце

AN rares would be fine even after 1st nerf (we have like 4 nerfs at this point?) but if they would appear only outside other league mechanics.
AN made me hate my favorite league mechanic which was Blight. |

" AN mods will stay unchanged till 3.19 as core features (after 3.18.0d) and in 3.20 we may see a new Atlas keystone that either buffs the reviewed (nerfed) AN mods or transforms the old Nemesis mods (pre 3.18) into AN mods for some sorts of "rewards". Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body." Only usable with Ethanol Flasks |

They probably want to focus on next league content. Understandable, but it is imo a big mistake.
AN has received overwhelming negative feedback. It radically transforms the game into fighting AN mods instead of monsters and that feels noticeably less fun. This will affect all future leagues, so the next league mechanic has to be really really good to attract players again. | |
Honestly this shouldn't even need a post or a review in the first place, just ask the same question for each league mechanic.
Can I counterplay rares in this league mechanic? If the answer is no you have to disable every counterplay specific AN monster, you could reduce the spawn numbers but that mostly just alters the occurrence rate not the difficulty when that event occurs. For example can I counterplay in Harvest? If you aren't melee yeah pretty much, even corpse detonator you can probably see well enough to avoid as you are limited to one plot at a time. Can I counterplay in Ritual? Absolutely not, none juiced rituals have absolutely no trackable visuals already and juiced are even worse. You can't see detonators, effigy, hundreds of toxic/mirage/moltens chasing you, bad layouts, random spawn locations and spinning lasers its a nightmare. These currently only work by doing so much dps you autokill challenges before they challenge. The changes they have made have improved these things I should add it isn't anything like as bad as it was but the sad truth is AN modifiers need to be curated for each content type to avoid the ones that don't fit periodically ruining the experience (this is just like the change to no juggs in blight, no tricksters in mine etc). |

What's there to discuss? She's a Community Manager, or something close enough to that. That right there is exactly what a Community Manager should say when the shit hits the fan gently and there's no clear agreement between what their higher ups are doing and what players are saying.
I imagine there's almost an inviolable internal rule that GGG don't change leagues dramatically after a few balance patches. It does set a bad precedent from their perspective, and if we know anything about strongarm philosophy, it's that you don't want to appear weak or vulnerable. They probably don't want to get back to those scary days of looking like players might know their own game better than they do. I mean, they'll probably admit it as sound bite fodder, but that last non-apology from Chris? Maybe he should let the CM handle the C from now on, because oh boy was that whole 'we thought it was fine but it turns out 'normal players' couldn't handle it' the silent part awfully out loud. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |
