logged in after 3 years only to find all characters deleted

I logged in after not playing for three years all my characters are gone, my storage still has items from previous leagues in them and my hideout is still decorated as it was 3 years ago. Did GGG do some big change that would have gotten rid of old characters cause I had alot of uniques and items that were legacy.
