Shaders & Cache. issue.
So even with a really good PC. I get some lag spikes usually early on after loading up the game.
I realize now this is the game loading shaders in places you have NOT been yet, or using a skill for the first time since re-launching the game,... Is there a way to STOP the game from dumping the shader cache automatically every time you close it!? This is 2022 no one should have issues with storage space for shader cache,... There should be an option for this,... since if you wanna clear your PC. shader cache yourself you can just run an advanced disk clean-up anyway. Have never seen a game designed like that, or it's not noticeable like this anyway if so. Chuter. 44. Last bumped on May 21, 2022, 4:03:59 AM

" Shader cached are stored on your HDD/SSD until you yourself delete them. Only time GGG deletes them, is when the is a change to the graphics engine in PoE. So if you claim these files gets delete all the time, then either you have someting like "onedrive" doing it, a security software on your PC or file corruption because HDD/SSD failure..... So,...
How come when I am in game, and I open the performance window,... I see shader activity only when first going to area's, or first time using skills, and then not again unless I go some where new, or change characters with different skills, and only at these exact moments do I get the small spikes. You would assume it would be as you say, but NO it's not %100. Why I am here posting about it. Chuter. 44.

" Because everyone have that when they change instance. A quick "ms" where Shader bar is maxed out / drive bar is also maxed out. This is because the shaders from that area is being loaded into memory from the cached files on your disc. Maybe you don't have enough ram to load it all and that's why you get it again later (I don't). Last edited by HanSoloDK#4843 on May 20, 2022, 12:16:59 AM

" I don't get it again unless I launched a fresh client, and go to new places for the first time, or use skills for the first time, but I don't understand why it gives a small spike when it loads them if they are on my Samsung SSD. working with 16gb. DDR4 RAM., i7-7700k & 1070. I don't get this in other games,... so fail by design then, and try to ignore it like some other small annoying things!? Call of Duty has shaders up the ying yang, and I have NO issues with that loading a fresh client, or not. So everyone gets this, and the small spikes when they first start playing, and go to fresh areas, or use fresh skills,... I am NOT alone? I was watching a streamer recently which is rare for me, and he had the performance window open,... his shader bar stayed full the entire time like WTF. dude lol? I think he has some issues on his own end, and maybe needs some upgrades, but anyway. Just gotta live with it I guess because I know crying here won't fix it, or anything else so,... Chuter. 44.

" Maybe you are using some "security/antivirus" software on your PC that "interferes" with file access. I am using Windows'10 with the build in Microsoft solution with default settings. And regarding that you compare PoE engine with CoD engine is like comparing a Cesna with a fighter Jet...... |

So the activity on the SSD. at the same time as shader activity is the shaders being loaded from the SSD. to RAM. not onto the SSD. then to RAM.!!!???
New shaders loaded to SSD. during play, and then also passed onto the RAM. creates the small spike for everyone because it's NOT actually on the SSD. like I said maybe!? I still think it's being cleared on client shut down, and if not this is very bad design for a game. Shouldn't get spikes from new shader action. This is what I think: >>> Loads new client,... shader chache is empty,... game requires shaders,... loads from server, or online some where fast to SSD. then to RAM., creates a spike first action for new client requiring those shaders. I bet it's like that because 9 yrs. ago most PC's from the average player couldn't handle it. I could be wrong, and I appreciate the replies especially since your probably right in the end, and it's just because this game was originally created in 2013 I'm gonna assume as my second choice. Yeah I know I almost back spaced the CoD. comment before I posted. I agree on that one, my bad.
Do you get tiny spikes during this moment!? I literally port to my two main towns, and my personal HO. & Guild HO. just to get it over with fast after loading up, and fire off skills, and run around for a minute while vaping. Chuter. 44. Last edited by Chuter#5688 on May 21, 2022, 3:36:15 AM

" You should be able to check this very fast. Here is the location of the PoE cache files --> C:\Users\"your windows account name"\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile\ |

shadercached3d11 = 310mb.
