Why being "hard" is terrible for poe
|
It makes an extremely grindy game, more grindy, and even after youve put together an amazing character, you still get dumpstered by endgame bosses/mobs. if the entry to these bosses and endgame systems was free, then failure states have a place, but when you have to pay currency for entry to these systems, 99% of ppl opt to simply sell their invitations/boss fragments rather than attempt them which means most players have much much less to do in poe. not only that but these fights force ppl to play very specific bossing builds that are tailored for these encounters, which limits build diversity.
in progression oriented games, there is a point where progression needs to outperform content, otherwise there's nothing to grind towards. being immortal and stupidly powerful is the carrot on the stick for spending 300 hours grinding and building a character. if that doesnt exist, grinding becomes pointless, at which point the sentinel steam player charts enter the room.... in short, being too difficult is simply another way of saying excessively grindy, because they are one and the same given the structure of progression. GGG, you may want to rethink balancing your game around professionals and streamers... Last bumped on May 16, 2022, 3:50:06 PM

Being an OP ascended godhood does exist in the game, but requires too much time and investment for most people that do not treat Path of Exile like a day job...
I wished that the time investment to finish the game was shorter, it would let me try other builds and other things in the game. Path of Exile is a Casino for gambling addicts.
Gambling is not fun nor a game mechanic... |

Just turned off the game.
Everything chases you all the time, on-death effects are annoying as hell. Stand still and die... Sorry, can'T even string together cohenerent sentences anymore. I don't know what GGG was thinking, but this feels like a gauntlet event. Last league I could get to the endgame without constantly being stressed and anxious. Peaks in difficulty are fine - but this sort of hyper-aware game-play where one second of not paying attention kills you, just is not. Just tried Beyond ... wow. Every blue and rare mob is buffed and the screen is filled with bubbles, on-death effects, burning, shocked, chilled ground - you name it. I thought I would enjoy it after the first batches of nerfs, but this is just too much for me. Sorry. Edit: Just FYI: Arch Namesis mods were the least well thought out part of last league. I completely skipped them after the first week. So did many people. Why on earth did you think that this kind of mods would make gameplay more compelling?
