changing to standard league sucks

I've played POE off and on for years not getting a build higher than level 50.
Just started again and I'm at level 14. I kept seeing an option to convert to standard league whenever I started my game. Not knowing what that meant I clicked on the merge option. Now, when I go into my stash I have a ton of items from gems to amour all of various degrees. I feel somewhat cheated since now I have access to all these goodies from my previous build sitting in my stash. I don't want any of that stuff since I do not want to be tempted to grab something I haven't earned yet from my current build. I can't sell it since there is so much stuff it would be a monumental task.
I just feel disenchanted with this game now.
End of rant.

level 14 takes 20 minutes. just start a new ssf character.

or wait 24 hours and start a new league character.

The struggle is real my friend.

Stuff like this is always hard for game developers since it's hard to think of ways to keep newbies from falling into pitfalls they make for themselves.

Explain exactly the consequences of what will happen if you proceed?

Start a new league character in 21 hours. New leagues are more fun anyway.

Why am I not surprised someone feels cheated because of an action they chose for themself....

As far as "earning" goes, the basic concept of league is to run a build that isn't too item and gearing dependent to build up the resources and items for other builds that are.

If you dont want the ability to access those items, you have the freedom to vendor or outright destroy those items... but I bet you'd later feel cheated when you realized you may have gotten rid of something actually nice.

Currently, I'm trying to sort my std stash now that archnem is over. I have a hard time deleting a lot of it because a lot of it has become legacy, whether it be jewels with higher stats than the current tier of said stat now allows or uniques with stats that have since changed.

It's a pain to sort, but I'd much rather have access to the items I earned in previous leagues than having all my spoils from league disappear when the league ends.

I'm new to the game. How does these leagues work? Do you always have to level a new character in that certain league and running same maps all over again?

I can't even make it past act 3 in new leagues. I am beyond burnt out after going through all the acts so many times. It's fucking insane to think a normal person can do this every 3 months for a decade.
