Poison Phantasmal Spark vs Prox. Shield
Not sure if it's bug or not by my poison from Phantasmal Spark wont apply to monsters with Proximity Shield. I know hit wont cause any damage but it should apply poison.

Proximity shield does not protect against damage over time. If you poison an enenmy and run out of the shield, the poison will continue to deal damage.
Proximity shield does protect against damage from hits. Poison is based on the base damage of the hit, so you can't apply poison from outside of the shield. Hits from outside of the shield can still inflict effects that would cause damage over time, through methods such as Essence Drain or Corrupting Fever, I believe. |

" Poison is not based on the damage of the hit, but hits do need to deal a non-zero amount of damage of any of the source types for an ailment in order to afflict that ailment. A hit that does 0 damage will never inflict poison, but a hit that does 1 damage can inflict a poison that deals 1 million dps. The immunities from Expedition remnants are a good example of this. If you play a poison build that deals only physical base damage, you will not be able to poison enemies that are immune to physical damage, even though poison is chaos damage. If you have only 1 point of chaos damage, the hit will poison and will include the physical damage for its poison calculation, even though it did not affect the hit damage at all. So for Spark and Proximity Shield, you need to be inside the shield. |

Thank you guys for the info. It seems rly unfair that Poison as damage over time is useless vs Proximity Shield monsters but that's GGG's intention I guess.
Well, time to look for another build. |

Does anyone know if Ignite Arc works vs Prox. Shields?

No it doesn't, prox shields a pita but generally if the attack/spell in question is based off a hit it doesn't work on proxy shield unless within as usual.
Most straight DoTs without a hit component do work like contagion, scorching ray, flame wall, fire traps burning ground, creeping frost etc. Last edited by Draegnarrr#2823 on Mar 26, 2022, 9:50:40 AM

" "An exception to this is damaging Ailments such as Ignite or Poison, since they deal damage based on the base damage of the hit that inflicts them, and if the hit deals no damage, then the ailment is ignored." The very next sentence in the wiki entry after the sentence you quoted... :D But anyway, proximity shield isn't a big enough issue to be a look for a different build kind of thing. Have one of the skills already mentioned on backup to deal with those situations. Blight is another one that also works well for that without needing a bunch of links. Or link one of those or something else that suits your build to spell totem. All kinds of ways for hit builds to deal with shielded mobs without getting up next to them. I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.
