From Zero to Hero - How?

Maybe you should consider copying a well known build for your first end game character, then you can use it to farm, etc and when bored with it you can experiment with your own builds.

Or you could do what I did and remake your character 50 times every time you learn/realize something new...but if it's a farming char you want, and you want it right away, copy someone's build.
Never wrestle with a pig. You'll only get muddy, and the pig likes it!

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience!

I would, except a) the economy is terrible in softcore, almost to the point of not even bothering with it (thanks, RMT sites / bots!
Anyone know if that's really the case? I've played both, but haven't noticed much difference between the economies, and the ratio sites seem pretty close..

But as I understand it, everyday that goes by farmable currency becomes worth less and less, until eventually an Exalted might = 500 Alchs.. o_0

I was planning on eventually playing in Default, cuz lets face it, you WILL eventually die. So I find it best to hope for the worst, and not get overly attached to Hardcore. But the conspiracies/fears of Default Leagues future economy put me at worry...

So your ele cleave templar (OP as hell) has 1200 life in normal act 3 and you still die a lot? Are your resistances crappy? Because I don't understand how you can die that much. Are you playing too recklessly? Are you lagging a lot? Are you playing at 5 fps?
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Prolly his resistances. I've found from my experience that Fire damage is the most deadly. So make sure all your resists, except for Chaos (since it is hard to get), as close to cap as you can get. Especially if you're in Cruel/Merciless.

And make sure you have Armor, or Iron Reflexes. Evasion/ES isn't all that good in terms of survival.

anyone who's serious about playing the game plays hardcore. Let's be honest; it's where the cool kids hang out.

Well I guess natural selection is working then.

He stated that he was using magic level gear. Maybe OP should link his gear and we can see what he is working with.

In my opinion, groups are the way to go in hardcore. Its safer and faster. If I'm looking to progress through quests, I will find a group and get as many free waypoints as I can. Otherwise, I'm in a group farming Ledge, Fellshrine, or Docks (careful of void bears...).

I've leveled up 4 separate characters to endgame. Never really had a difficult time doing so.

The OP is failing for a number of possible reasons:

1. Not enough defenses, I see that the OP said that he's been using Magic gear all this time?
2. You didn't follow good builds, or you just didn't follow any builds at all. POE is quite strict on its passive points allocation and skill choices
3. You don't understand or you ignored some fundamental mechanic in the game, e.g. resists, armor, damage, kiting etc.

Agree.

dont make your own builds.

Your own bulids will revolve around no life nodes or little life/es etc.

Meaning you will fail.

the game is all about getting as much life or es as possible.
The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. From what I've seen it's going to be awesome. - Michael_GGG
One thing that makes the game significantly easier is partying. Find one or two other people willing to level from the beginning with you and it'll be a hell of a lot easier to progress.

Other than that, just understand what you want from the build you're attempting, stack life and resists as soon as you can, and maybe get a couple cheap low-level uniques that are good for twinking (Silverbranch, Crest of Perandus (the 40% block shield), Searing Touch, etc)
