For me, my currency came from these sources this league:

1) Archnemesis
2) Random mob drops
3) Selling deafening essences in bulk
4) Lucky Cortex (2 out of 3 bottled faith)
5) Lucky stacked deck (Fiend)

what is cortex? Unique map?

yes. it can drop a valuable flask (bottled faith)
currency comes from small drops sold by the hundreds if your build does maps slowly don't bother playing it unless it can do bosses without issues clearing maps fast is really the best way to make currency and people against zoom gameplay just hate that fact and ggg is trying to ruin this for everyone by slowing down the game

It is my first "serious" league and I have been playing for about a month now. My current character is worth somewhat 10-15ex but it felt like eternity saving up for gear and jewels(I bought basically everything, however some can be crafted I suppose, but crafting is still complicated science for me...)

But I see lots of people having like 150+exes in couple of weeks after league start, how they do it? I do trading, harvest services and map farming(currently strongboxes farming) but still... Not complaining, I'm just curious how people play this game effectively

So, some things mentioned here are correct, while other is pretty BS. First of all, streamers do not have drop priority, you can reach as much as they do if u play as much and are as knowledgeable.

Secondly, yes: Leaguestart is a very specific time where u can potentially make more profit with things that are not worth as much later. That being said, the market dynamic changes overtime and there are things that grow in value increasingly, with those you can make big bucks even later in the league. A few examples:

- Aisling T4 (betrayal) is worth 50c early league, now u can sell it for 3ex.
- Incr. Attributes Belts are worth way more now, as attribute-stackers need good gear to get going - lateleague build = higher costs later
- double/triple stat watchers eyes, way higher price later in the league where people minmax characters.
- ancient orbs/harbingers. Worthless early, now 13c/ea in bulk.

Okay, now we got this out of the way, let's adress how you can make that much currency.

1. Have a plan
U need to know exactly what you are going to farm and need to be able to start the farming as early as possible. That means as well having your leaguestart down on memory - what item/gem do you need when, how do you overcome weaknesses of your build, how do you set up your atlas passives (earlier:region points), so ultimatively how can u reach the state where u can farm whatever you want to farm.

Example: I decided this league I am focusing on a day 4 delve push. So my first character iteration had 3 days to push 117/117 atlas and farm roughly 20ex, which was the number I needed for my delve setup. I made a bunch of this 20ex through chaos recipe, selling random drops, selling boss-carry-services, and selling map fragments from farming guardian maps with guardians aid as well as maven invitations. Once you have a plan and u only have to execute it it makes farming a lot more targeted and therefore easy, as you know exactly where your money is coming from.

2. Be efficient
Was mentioned before but it's important to focus on that. The best plan will not work if u take 24h to finish the campaign alone and while racing to maps is surely not the most important thing, it certainly helps. Same goes for mapping later: if u need 10 min per map and someone else makes it in 5min while you farm the same content he overtowers your earnings by 100%, simple as that. And there's one thing to always keep in mind: THE HIDEOUT IS LAVA - you don't want to be in your hideout ever, there is no money (unless you only earn money through flipping/trading related methods but that's a different topic)

Here are things you can do to increase effectiveness.

1. Have all the relevant premiul tabs for the content you want to farm
2. Have a few quad tabs to dump stuff into
3. Prepare maps: Roll like 10, 20, or 50 maps at once, place them in a tab, add scarabs and sextants u want to use.. It's a onetime setup that takes 30min but it enables to you run the same amount of maps without ever stopping, saving a lot of time in the end.
4. Helpful tools: chaos recipe enhancer, lab compass, awakened poe trade and many more. Use them. They safe time.
5. Bulk buy and sell. If you sell things in bulk (a.k.a in large quantities) you can get more money per piece AND your trade is done faster. For buying you might suffer a small loss to ROI, but the time you save is far more valuable.
6. Use strict filters

Lastly:
3. Play to your (and your characters) strengh
I personally suck at speedmapping. Not my forte, I want to clear too much and I STILL pick up too much stuff. Therefore I rarely play mapping strategies. I also do not enjoy the Headhunter-playstyle, nor do I like bow-characters or glasscanons. So, based on that you can imagine, in regards to "be effective", that I shouldn't make currency strats revolving around speedmapping.

That's why I focus on bossing or on specific high-revenue content a lot of people dislike, like labyrinth, like delve, like heist. Blight maps is also something very suitable for me, as the maps always have a certain target that I can chase without having to go out of my way.

Last words:
PoE has TONS of mechanics and a difficulty level that roughly requires the same amount of hours to understand like a Bachelor degree. That's what makes it unique and that's what makes it interesting for the majority of the high-end players. The amount of complexity enables a very wide variety of farming strategies you can follow, whose profitability changes with the duration of the league as well as the market. Give yourself the time to grasp an understanding, you're doing well for your first serious league. In my first league I made 4 exalts total. This league I am well worth over 450 exslts already. With knowledge comes power, and in no other game you can have a stronger impact of your knowledge than in PoE.
the REAL BIG TRUE:70% of players shop the currency with mastercard from china sites, this game is ever more paytiwin.GGG favors the koreans pricefixer and favors all the damned flipper's players....
it would be enough to add a simple merchant who also sells chaos and ex!!!
and enter a direct item market into the game where people sell items at a price and you buy them with an automatic exchange wiyhout any risk of scam!!!
...but this is inconvenient for buisness of those who sell for real money and obviously also at GGG and to our dear friend Chris Wilson

THINK ABOUT IT

You just assumed to know the play-habits, preferences, and mindset of 70 percent of the player-base. I shall build you an altar great omniscient one.

SSF should be made mandatory. Wait a week or 2, prices drop fast if you must buy.
Blight & Heist

One way to farm, is just to be lucky!
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
