Where does currency come from?

It is my first "serious" league and I have been playing for about a month now. My current character is worth somewhat 10-15ex but it felt like eternity saving up for gear and jewels(I bought basically everything, however some can be crafted I suppose, but crafting is still complicated science for me...)

But I see lots of people having like 150+exes in couple of weeks after league start, how they do it? I do trading, harvest services and map farming(currently strongboxes farming) but still... Not complaining, I'm just curious how people play this game effectively

they play more than you.

the play *faster* than you.

more+faster == more currency early league, resulting in profits that cannot be made mid/late league

example : cold iron point. not very rare, but important for some builds

day 1 price - 70 chaos. day 3 price - 30 chaos. day 7 price - 7 chaos

dead reckoning jewel

day 2 price - 100c. day 7 price - 11c

the first week, when there is no supply but large demand, is the time when people can make a bunch of currency selling 'average' gear. they take this currency, reinvest it into their characters, and start farming high end content.

ashes of the stars - first week price - multiple exalts. current price - 50c

alternatively, you take your early league currency and invest into things that you expect to increase in price (mirrors / shards)

feb 11, these were worth about 1000 chaos orbs each. today, theyre worth 2500 chaos each

good point, thx, so it is not possible to farm that much currency after league start?
it certainly IS possible. but you have to play a lot more, because any random drop isnt worth nearly as much.

the good news is, gearing for endgame is also cheaper, so it takes a lot less to get your build going.

if you're *serious* about farming now, i would invest into:

eater of worlds, harbinger, expedition, stronboxes nodes. then juice up a map with high value div card (brothers stash, nurse, doctor). youll basically live there until you reach your goal of X currency.

Yes, if you dedicate your life to it.

There are thousands of people that literally take leave from work or time off from study etc to play POE 24/7 for the first couple weeks of every league.

They are the people you see with all that $$.

Streamers have drop priority, it's common to see them dropping mirror still in acts 1-10, plus many have funneling, where 20-50 people give all resources to one and that one crafts the items.
There is a huge resource of players who simply want to trade for better gear and get back to playing. They don't want to deal with crap and are willing to pay for service. There's a whole bunch of people who want to give you their currency. You just have to be available and have stuff they want.

things constantly change, the meta for making currency in poe is as ever shifting as the meta for what builds are hot and not. personally i dont rly keep up to date with the latest hip strats on the street, my days of going out of my way to make currency are long gone. thats fine cause i have tons of high end/mirror type gear lying around in standard to try out anything i want to.

but if youre new to the game, you dont have piles of crap from 20k hours playing, you want to get into the economy etc then good stuff. its a really fun side of the game and having the build freedom that comes with being rich actually helps a lot when it comes to building up game knowledge.

you could do a lot worse than get into Grimros youtube channel ive linked above if you want a window into some of the things people can do in leagues to make money.

im subscribed to him, its not an area of the game i really keep up to date on but hes a good guy and a good source of fotm strats from the higher end of softcore league economy pushing.

I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
For me, my currency came from these sources this league:

1) Archnemesis
2) Random mob drops
3) Selling deafening essences in bulk
4) Lucky Cortex (2 out of 3 bottled faith)
5) Lucky stacked deck (Fiend)
