Another trade scam story
Playing POE since 2.0,
I have a total 3647.5 hours on my account Got married, my son was born last year, now 11 months old, I turn 35, still trying to game, Playing while my son is sleeping in the day in 1 hour intervals or after 10 pm Let's play poe this season Let's try skele mages, seems good Try to get Dead Reckoning, did avoid lots of scams Try to get 6link flehscrafter, still there are tons of scams, 6 sockets 4+2 links everywhere, avoid it all Every trade you gotta watch like a hawk, never ever do one mistake Trade league seems like scam league, Got the luck of my 3600 hour gaming time, dropped the fiend card in heist, priced 9.1ex Placed it on sale last night, 9.1ex Today, playing the game for 1 hour, my son is waking up Got a message in game for buying, [Removed by Support] Placed 9 ex and 1 c, canceled the trade himself, Thought to myself ".1 ex is 12c, guy made a calculation error", Gotta hurry now, wife is calling Guy placed 1ex and 12c, I pay attention to 12c, accepted the trade Took me a while to realize, Feeling sad Started to look online, everywhere is filled with "poe tips to avoid scam", "poe points to consider when trading" In poe forum most threads are like "lol buyer beware", "lol you need to get smarter and trade slower", "lol didn't you put your cursor over the item, then it's on you" Very little comments about "it's wrong" or "this needs to be adressed" If this was in real life, at least people would have sympathized, or try to get the scammer And the sad part is, there is no penalty for scammers Not one post about "GGG doing something about scammers" So here I am, trying to "play" a "game" in my limited time to relax and rewind POE is about killing monsters and getting loot, this is the game's core But trading is also core part of the "trade league", it's in the name You can relax and chill and shut down half your brain and still kill monsters for hours, it's so easy that you can watch twitch or something on your second screen This part of the game, it's easy AND fun On the other hand, trading also is definitely a core part of the game, most players are in trade league But the trade part of this "game" is like real life, you can't relax, you can't turn your brain off, you gotta be alert, you can trade for hundres of times in your multiple thousand hour playtime, and each time you gotta be alert, because buyer beware Trading is not EASY And definitely it's not FUN Thank you for making me sad over a game Last edited by Ian_GGG#0000 on Feb 19, 2022, 9:00:33 AM Last bumped on Jul 13, 2022, 2:03:19 PM

Scamming is a playstyle. Your post, and what you lost in the scam, is the reward for that playstyle. Best way to ruin it for the scammer is to say "good scam!" and wish him a wonderful day. Be careful next time. Break that word down. Full of Care. That's all it takes.

As with all "scams" not paying attention, the rest is fluff to give yourself an excuse for not paying attention.
To make it simple, pay attention, if you can't for any reason, just cancel the fucking trade...if it is worth it someone will get back to you Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

sounds like you scammed yourself

" The fact that you put "scam" in quotations makes me think you don't honestly believe it was a scam, or you're just one of the scammers yourself. |

A whole lot of these scam reports are just people try to get sympathy handouts. Probably not this one... it's not following the formula for it. Too much personal attachment to the issue.

my common practice is if for any reason the other user cancels the trade window, whatever he puts into the trade window in the next trade should ALWAYS be put under scrutiny. make sure whatever items he's putting into the trade window the second time is right. even if it takes a couple of extra seconds. from what i'm aware of, the majority of all scams start with a cancelled trade from the other user. so whenever that happens, watch for funny business. especially if youre dealing with high value items.
i just play in standard and i think ive only encountered one or two scam attempts throughout all of my years. but its always something to be wary of if youre dealing with items that have value. also i never really list stuff for fractions and decimals of exalts. maybe half an exalt if it doesnt sell and then i lower it again to the next lowest exalt if i dont get a whisper. not worth the time trying to figure out the current chaos to exalt ratio or haggling over a few chaos orbs you might get shorted on. if someone puts in what looks like about half an exalt of chaos ill probably just take it and move on. what i always do when im buying is just pay in exalt shards. at 2 shards per 0.1 exalt price, and nobody has ever had a problem with that if an item is listed for 10.5 exalt or whatever and i just put up 10 exalts and 10 exalt shards. not everybody has the same etiquette though. i think ive only had one or two buyers put up exalt shards instead of just chaos to make up the 0.5 exalts or whatever. most people tend to use chaos. i think its dumb. 9.1ex?
why people put prices like this? |

" People put 9.5ex to undercut those selling for 10ex, but still make more than 9ex. Then somebody wants to undercut them at 9.4ex. And so forth. It's a perfectly natural thing to see. - here's my sig

You say "If this was in real life, at least people would have sympathized, or try to get the scammer" .
But we are not in real life . We are in Wraeclast . A dark and brutal continent , where most of us got exiled for minor or major crimes . Those who does not open their eyes, open their purses , they say . Last edited by iuiulitza#4490 on Feb 19, 2022, 5:42:47 PM
