Poison + ailments deal damage faster, do I want increased or reduced duration?

So I'm super confused about this mechanically. I know that ignites want "deals damage faster" mods. I can on my tree pick up poison deals damage 20% faster thru a mastery and another ailments deal damage 10% faster for 30% total faster. Along the way the same wheel has some increased duration stuff. Can someone explain if thats good or bad? Is dealing damage faster even worth it for poison like it is ignite? Then if so, do i WANT more duration or less duration?

you do 100 damage over 10 seconds originally (10 damage per second)

if you have 'deals damage 20% faster', now you do 12.5 damage per second, for 8 seconds.

if you also have '25% increased duration', now you deal 12.5 damage per second, for 10 seconds.

So, deal damage faster is more dps. increased duration is more TOTAL damage, but not increased dps for any given dot effect. However, you can STACK poison dots. so with increased duration, you will be able to stack more active dots, resulting in more dps

so, both 'deal damage faster' AND 'increased duration' are fine stats for poison.

increased duration ISNT good for ignite, because i can (normally) only have 1 ignite. i will easily be able to reapply ignite before it runs out.
For poison you want as much increased duration as you can get.

Increased duration of poison has NO effect on the damage per second that the poison deals, it just makes it deal damage for longer.

poison dealing damage faster won't give you more damage per poison, its just useful for clearing as it gets a faster rate of dealing damage.

you want as much ailment duration as you can get for poison as it stacks infinitely unlike most other ailments.

It is worth noting that increased duration for ignites allows to get more out of high value ignites, which is particularly useful for skills with a high damage variance and / or slow cast / attack speeds.

It does however not lineraly scale dps like it does for poison.

It has no effect on the dps of a single poison stack, but it does have an effect on the overall dps of your build over an "infinite" amount of time.

It mostly matters against bosses that survive long enough for poison duration to affect the number of poison stacks you can apply simultaneously. The individual stacks may not have their dps increased by it, but the number of simultaneous stacks is.

faster poisons only means higher dps but shorter individual poisons, which means no effect on fully ramped dps, just quicker ramping
Easiest way to think of it, "deals damage faster" = better for mapping
increased ailment duration = better for bossing.
