Limit patch download bandwidth ?
Hi,
for those who have a slow internet connection they share with other people in the house, it would be nice if the patch client would have a way to limit the download bandwith to a fixed Kb/s rate. With my wife, we are working at home, and when I download a patch like the last one (4Gb), it eats my networks bandwidth for several hours, and we cannot work properly during this long time... This feature is a classic feature on any other client download applications. Thanks for your help. Last bumped on May 12, 2022, 1:07:33 AM

Aren't there external tools that do that? A quick google search gave me this:

well, I supposed there must be some applications, but as I said, this feature is a classic feature on any other client download applications (steam, battlenet, etc...), so why not in POE ?

No idea. What happens if you use the Steam version rather than the standalone client?

There should be a way to do it through your modem but honestly, I forgot how.

" That depends on the particular router, but usually there's options like setting fixed max bandwidth per client or % bandwidth, also QoS setting when it tries to keep certain % of bandwidth unused. Some of them also have an option to give priority to small chunks of data over large ones. Also depends on the protocol/thread number poe uses for download - if it's something like bittorrent, the other clients may experience slowdown no matter what. " I think the best way for my man to go about this is to download it overnight or arrange with his wife or smth. Or even just go to a nearby Starbucks if he's got a laptop lol |

Well, it's a rare enough occasion to begin with. If it poses a problem, one can just download it overnight, while the wife isn't working, or do it using free WiFi and whatnot. Taking into account how long usually takes ggg to implement small QoL things it would be easier to deal with that locally, rather than wait for it.

" I suspect the question answers itself. With Path of Exile being available through Steam (for most users), reproducing any of the functionality offered by Steam is likely very low on the list of priorities. If PoE is available through Steam where you live, it may be worth switching over to the other client - though it would mean a reinstall. Today… by divine decree… your patch of Excel, begins.

check if your router allows traffic priorisation, either in the qos (quality of service) or internet filter section (f.e. in fritz routers).
if there is some priorisation you can set processes of your gaming pc that connect to port 3724 on a lower priority. if that doesn't help or the port number is wrong, mail techsupport@grindinggear.com for the technical details and please post them here so other people with similar problems get some help. offline
