Engine Multi-threading killing my Core i-9 11gen CPU

Hey Everyone,

I have recently upgraded to a new PC with decent specs, yet I started facing issues with POE game. every sense I started playing the PC, the game performance seemed OK, until I try to use a stream app then the game starts hanging.

I did my troubleshooting, upgraded the drivers to the latest version, checked the compatibility and so on, I reached to the conclusion that despite all the processing power I have, the moment I turn on engine multithreading from the graphics settings, POE starts consuming 40-60% of CPU on average and my frames don't go beyond 70-80 FPS.

if I turn off engine multithreading, FPS drops to around 40fps, and POE CPU usage drops to around 18-20% at max.

My PC Specs are:

I too bought a new pc for Christmas.

OP and I have the same CPU.

I've had PoE shut down and send my computer into a mandatory restart.

It seems completely random and doesn't happen often enough for me to research it much. But it does suck losing portals.

I just assumed it was a Windows 11 issue.
Try limiting your FPS to 60.

If you do a search for Intel Multi thread and within the past year, you may find a few other threads with some sort of tips/tricks to try. It may or may not be an actual Multi thread issue.

I also remember some chatter a while ago about multi threading issues in general with Intel chips (or was that AMD - <best Geralt voice> Fuck, now I can't remember which it was). May want to look at Bios updates for your motherboard as well, if you didn't do that in your driver update search.

Well I read all the threads almost related to the subject, and people are saying it is related to the intel cores performance related to hyper threading in general.

I did all the tricks and the only one that helped lower the CPU usage was turning off the multithreading.

giving the fact that POE not long ago release support for 16 cores CPU's, and also the fact I had a 8core CPU before without this issue. I strongly believe there is something that need to be fixed with the game itself.

I based this on the fact that Core i9 has better overall single core performance than core i7, which shows while playing any other game except for POE.

Damn, was worth a shot. I am an AMD guy, so I know jack all about that specific Intel issue. It could very well be a POE thing specifically, won't deny that.

Wish I could help you out more.

as i understood it, the 8 core intel i9-11900k is better on single threaded applications than multithreaded ones.

the mag also mentions that it runs hot easily, please check the cpu's temperatures while you play.

you need the temperature to be lower than 70°C if you want the cpu to boost single threaded apps

I have this issue with the same CPU but even worse my specs:

i9-11900 @ 2.50GHz 5
NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2060 6gb (and Intel UHD 750)
ASUSTeK PRIME H510M-D Rev 1.xx
Samsung A-data Technology 16Gb DDR4-2666 (1333Mhz)
XIGMATEK 600W 80
Kioxia Exceria ssd 465gb
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Xiaomi MI monitor RMMNT238NF 1920*1080 75Hz

cpu easily gets to 100% usage while the fps is 30~40 its capped to 60...

Did you find any solution that helped?
Hi,

I have read here that this is a problem with Intel processors. I have a computer almost two years old and running on AMD Ryzen 5 2600. So far I have not had any problems with PoE. Since patch 3.17, performance has dropped to unplayable levels - latency averaging around 170ms and FPS 6-8 or even worse. I've also tried several things, including turning off multithreading. Absolutely no response. I can't play the game from patch 3.17 and I don't know if I will ever be able to. Because of the game, I'm not going to buy a brand new PC every two years, moreover, when the existing one can easily handle everything else to the fullest. The only problem I've always had is with every new PoE league since the Synthesis. It has always improved in the end with more fixes and patches, so I hope it will be now. But for the first time, the performance is so poor that I can't start the game at all.
dead Engine for 2022. Multithreading works incorrect, Just Disable All Virtual cores in THIS GAME. And wait when they fix it here
complex solutions 1 or 2:
1. Disable multithreading in BIOS - worst solution
2. Task Manager - Details - PoE.EXE - Affinities - disable all second cores
2.1 After reboot PC repeat step 2.

Ryzen has same problems with virtual cores in this game
