Drox...

I am a somewhat new player. This is my 3rd league, and first time in maps. I think I am doing okay, except for Drox. I don't mind a hard fight, and even dying a few times, but what is making this not fun, to the point of looking elsewhere for my game fix, is when you portal back in from dying, you are instantly ganked and killed with in one second. Dying the first time is on me, using the portal to head back in and having no time to even hit dash or flame dash, before being killed is on GGG.

I really like POE, but I guess only having 3 watchstones is as far as I will be able to go. My build is my own and I have fun with it, Just wish I could get past Drox after 8 tries. Best I have done is got him to about a 10th of his health bar left.

Anyways, this is just a rant. Thanks for letting me vent

Hi Welcome to POE.

Your experience is a valid issue. Some fights in POE is designed in such a way that, if you do it right the first time it seems trivial. But if you die once, the arena become messy and clutter, and you just get overwhelmed when getting back. I had a similar experience (spoiler alert) if you are interested.


Usually experienced players will brush it off with comments like, Drox is easy, follow a build guide (meta build) and so on. Depending on your build, for Drox or similar messy fights you can try:

[in hideout]
- Make sure you re-activate all your auras in your hideout first.
- Check your Pantheon again to see if you can change anything to suit the fight.

[in arena]
- If you happen to die and portal back, you will be immune for 30 seconds or more (grace period). Try observe the environment first, and aim for a good time to move or dash away.
- Immediately use a flask (e.g. basalt, jade) for more armor or evasion just in case to buy more defense/time.
- For Drox, stay as far away from him as possible if you are ranged or minion build. (For melee, sorry I do not know how). Also the minions that Drox spawn deal quite a lot of damage so try to kill them (also help with flask charges) if possible. The flags also deal damage when they land.
- Try lure Drox to one end of the arena instead of fighting him in the center. You will then only need to deal with one flag instead of 4. But the maneuver space will be much tighter.
- Frost bomb usually is quite effective to lower boss regen, if you can incorporate it in your build and play style.

Drox is a DPS check, if your defenses are low you may need to prioritize killing the extras, some builds can just ignore them.

also when you portal into a new area you are given a grace period where you are not attacked or damaged, when clicking your portal stop pressing buttons and wait for everything to load so you can prepare for what is about to happen.

drox will potentially be removed in 3.17 or an optional boss(like shaper/elder guardian maps), we will know for sure in a few weeks once we know exactly what is coming in the new atlas.

Thanks for the advice. I will look at making sure my auras are up/on and that I don't pressing anything when I portal back in. Will make sure that I hit the armor and evasion flasks after I portal in.

try any of the maven: [variant] - if you die in the fight most likely the map is bricked.. getting worst and worst on hindsight sirus does not seem so bad now...

Failing Drox after reaching red maps is kinda' normal. Next time when Zana offers to get you to Drox Citadel, don't alch the map. Doing the map without mods makes the fight a lot easier.
