Twitch should ban sponsored streaming and drops.

Twitch is the company that benefits from great products within the industry, which is why it should do everything to help the industry deliver them, and its why it should ban sponsored streaming and giveaways for views also known as "drops".

90% of the time a game is going through a massive viewership it's either because some streamers with 500k to million followers are sponsored to play it or because the game is giving away some MTX rewards for views, and this becomes a problem when future games that will be superior to not get the exposure, and credit they deserve, unless they too design cash shops with MTX giveaways, or waste tons of $ on sponsoring streamers. This also misleads so many to believe that a game with high viewership means it's a great game, a game that many like playing, and its worth buying on launch.

Do I like free MTX? Yes, but everything that's also bought or given easily also loses value. Look at Path of Exile, there's been times when it had 250k+ views, and then 1.5k at peak hours in the evening in North America, and I'm not talking about end of league. Bottom line, there's so many things I can list here why it's 2022 and still I can't name one product that I believe was superior to those that arrived before January 11th, 2011. The last time I played softcore and got those 36 challenges was during the Perandus league, because of that time there was a cool portal MTX, which sadly I never end up using as it was too big and laggy, but just recently look at all those portals I end up on top of so many other MTX.

Other things below about the current state of the industry, PoE, PoE2 as well as some of the upcoming competition.
Spoiler

Path of Exile is a mediocre ARPG at best, and yes it's a sad reality to say that, but its core design and endgame why it struggles with retention every league. The multiplayer is also poorly designed, and it's also plagued with botting issues, and I'm not going to go into its competitive aspect.

It's come to an age where we have to be fortunate that we get one mediocre product every decade, when in around 2005 there were multiple AAA products coming every year, and back then the inflation was lower, far less had access to PC's, and internet through the globe. Today we also have pandemic to keep people indoor much longer that benefits this industry.

Look at the Gauntlet event, with the amount of interest and participants GGG could easily design a system where the total prize would exceed a million dollars, that's right, because $1,000,000 is not much when you have 100,000 participants, but since this thread is already getting too long, I'm not going to discuss how that can be achieved here.

We should be fortunate GGG is developing Path of Exile 2, but game designs is one thing that few could get it right, and I'll tell you one thing, after playing all type of games for extended period through my lifetime I dislike group based, NPC story driven, pay to win where only the company is the seller or some third party provider. I dislike group based because of rules that often make no sense unlike in reality where for example it was me against humanity I still could prevail, I don't have to depend on others who might be online or not available, because all rules are enforced by others like me. There's not some magical wall that there's no way I can pass, or that that's as much as I can do within the game during the day or week.

I dislike theme parks because sandbox they allows a much better and richer individual role playing experience. Developers prefer theme parks because they prefer to have control over their game and how it evolves, but that's why they also have to be the content creators, and that ends up far more costly through time, which is why since 2013 if you look at PoE all they've done is added more bosses, some league mechanics that end up useless, and just give out more loot.

I dislike games solely designed for the mainstream audience, and for a long time GGG only had one ladder that most cared about, and that ladder existed in the easy mode difficulty, which is the sole purpose why finally GGG listened to me the last time I made some argument, and it was since way back of 2014-2015 when I was talking about the need of elite league, yet they wanted to monetize that through "private" leagues, but private leagues are bad, because their ladders were irrelevant for most to care and compete within.

3.16 was the worst thing that happened, because you got a guy who completed the Gauntlet in over two days, and taking over 20% of the prize on top of some other bounties alongside. That one event that happens every three months to be completed in less than three days only because few individuals do their homework more than anyone and then are ready to kill themselves to win it, and the terrible format as well as prize for the total participants its why they're losing so much $.

2022 is the best year so far, because already in February the community is talking about multiple games competing with Path of Exile, but sadly none of them are worth migrating to. Elden Ring is a single player game, where you can set your own difficulty to experience the NPC story in some Skyrim type of world. Lost Ark I heard it's some casual WOW type of game only with ARPG combat, where you do your daily quest and weekly raids with a group/guild, and then much more P2W from what I heard. There's not even things like damage meters, and I was hyped for it when I saw the trailer around November 2014. By the time Lost Ark has taken to arrive to my region so many have already learned so much about it, and then they choose Russia before North America? Who in the right mind would want to support a game that doesn't release to most parts in the world at the same or similar time. You saw for example how those who already knew so much about PoE destroyed their competition in the China version.

Perhaps because your 8000+ posts are about being the first before Shagsbeard to comment in someone else thread, and sadly most of the time with that type of quality response, which by the way it's also against the ToS, I'm just not gonna flag it this time, because yes posting for the sole purpose to bait, and attack the OP is against the TOS.

DoubleU, please by all means make a thread, because I don't remember the last time you've done that, so I can too give you the exact type of replay, and then complain why I'm in a forum that's sole purpose is to read and then voluntary exchange discussion (opinions) with the rest.

I do wonder how you get away with posting basically the same thread over and over. Slightly different perspectives of the same thought, but basically the same over and over. I used to think redundant threads were merged with other threads, but that was clearly a misconception on my part.

It might help if you tried to differentiate this thread from all your other threads that say basically the same thing, because if there is nuance, I'm not seeing it.
Thanks for all the fish!
Another Kopro Geron day at the races.

Twitch and its congeners make scads of money from streamer features and cross-pollinated drop events. This is one of their major modus operandi. Why would they run over themselves with their own gravy train?

I'm certainly no GGG apologist, but c'mon, they would be negligent if they didnt market the game as best as they can, and leverage social media & Twitch.

That said, I think you could absolutely question the marketing to casual masses, whilst simultaneously being actively hostile to new players and casual gamers in your development strategy.

You cant seek casual gamer money, and then be shocked when they are like "what the actual fuck is this?", and abandon ship like rats on the Titanic.

Hey, I tried guys.

Besides I agree with Kopogero here. 100%.

I'd agree even were he a super successful streamer making fat stacks from sponsored streams. I think I'd agree even MORE.

Fuck twitch. Fuck the streaming culture. Fuck the grotesque amount of wealth flowing towards people who don't even notice it most of the time. Fuck thots. Fuck bathwater and the fucking thirsty shits who bought it. Fuck that attention whore who fellated sorry "ASMR licked" their microphone, as if ASMR isn't code for fetish half the time. Fuck the creation of streamers as Raid Shadow Legends characters because oh my god is that not the most Twitch thing ever.

Fuck the whole concept of streaming games and people paying to see it because it is without a fucking doubt the worst thing to happen to quality game design and balance, ever. And the monetisation of it should horrrify any true gamer who once looked at Sportsball jocks and wondered how the fuck they "earned" so much money and fame. As usual, those who mocked got a taste of what they were mocking and were like mmm slurp more please!

Fuck. Twitch.

I wonder if this is it. Is my razored accordance with a Kopogero thread my last little spin around the ice?

If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
