I hate Windows. But I also hate Linux (and MacOS)
(And I don't like Steam either. Looks suspicious and inconvenient.) I used to play in Windows years ago. And now I am trying to make Path of Exile work in Linux. I am currently using Pop!_OS.
The amount of cryptic messages that appear is ridiculous. I have no idea of what Vulcan or DXVK is but I tried to install them (installing things in Linux is extremely painful). I already installed PlayOnLinux, Wine, Steam and Lutris. And there is always a new mysterious error coming up, something that looks like only an expert would know. I am tired of opening web pages and more web pages searching for a plethora of terms, only to be led to another plethora of things that look like unintelligible combinations of numbers and letters. Wow, this sucks a lot. I've downloaded from the Pop Store an app called "Bottles" https://usebottles.com/ and I at LEAST managed to download the ggpk and make the game run this time. But it is UNPLAYABLE because it has A LOT of LAG. And then again: this software also has a lot of cryptic functions I have no idea what mean, and I've been randomly trying different configurations and they all give crap results and the screen freezes and stutters and I die all the time.
I am also trying Steam now (against my will) and it is also super confusing with another plethora of weird options which also aren't Linux-friendly at all. |

I tried Steam and it seems better than Bottles in performance, but still terribly bad. Less lagging, but still lots of it, as well as freezes. I believe it is also using that Proton-whatever (experimental). And the files are installed all over different places in the computer, with more cryptic names. I already had to install Path of Exile twice because Steam doesn't seem to use the same stand-alone installation. Lots of BS. Unplayable.

Now something is making my computer perma-freeze and forcing me to press the Power Button for 5 seconds to turn off everything because nothing responds, not even the mouse. It can't be the computer because it's brand-new, I bought it some years ago.

What's wrong with windows? Just works. Granted I strip 90% of services I dont need but never crash. Linux is for super nerds. It's free and no one uses it tell me all I need to know.

You should move this to another forum as Linux is not officially supported. Gameplay Help and Discussion is probably the best place as there are already other Linux threads there.
As far as running PoE on Linux, for me I get better performance that I didd when I used Windows. Just make sure you're running Steam Beta with Proton Experimental or ProtonGE. Also make sure you're using the Vulkan rendering engine in the Game settings. If you don't want to run Steam you can try Lutris |

"Yeah, I don't want to use Steam. And I did install Lutris with (probably) Path of Exile in it. But when I try to run Path of Exile in Lutris, I get this error: "Great. I have no clue of why. |

"What's wrong with Windows? If you can't find anything wrong, then feel free to use it. You could say it's also a matter of preference too. |

"Okay, I just found how to fix "This game has no executable set. The install process didn't finish properly." And I managed to make it run in Lutris now, though it gets very laggy sometimes, with lag spikes, so much so that I have to quit the game so as not to die mid battle (but end up dying many times anyway). Screen freezes with the lag, but 80% of the time is playable, except when that happens. |

" If you've used one of the Lutris install scripts for PoE and you're encountering issues, you should ask on the Lutris forums. As I said, I use Steam with Proton and the game plays very well on my old hardware. |
