[First Impression] What Killed Me?
"What killed me?"
What made me lose the past 2 hours of progress in leveling in a fraction of a second? I didn't see a projectile land, I didn't see an AoE, I didn't see an explosion. My character just disappeared. What did I learn that I didn't know before? Nothing. What can I do to avoid this fate in the future? Nothing*. These deaths to trash mobs feel entirely random, and so there is no learning possible. I am already following a build that has high defenses, immunities, on-hit defenses, and still some things can one-shot me with no explanation, and no ability to react. I suddenly remember: oh, that is what they were raging about in voice chat, that is the feeling they feel. This is why the entire discord channel, all those people that were talking builds, enjoying the leveling and group activities, eventually quit one by one before the season was over, and are now playing other games. This is what they omitted telling me when they got excited about Scourge and pulled me into a game I didn't care to try before. I have pages of positive feedback written in preparation for this post. I love many aspects of this game, the first ARPG that I've really tried to get into. None of this should be published until I can answer the titular question reliably every time it happens. I don't want to deceive others like my friends accidentally deceived me. Games that punish your progress for dying, and that have so many obscure things that can lead to a death, should have an exact after action report indicating the last X things that happened to your character. If I knew this would become such a problem, I would not invest $30+ into this game, and I would not recommend it to anyone else. It's hard to understand how awful it is before experiencing it yourself. I didn't understand until now, and it overshadowed all other experiences. I want the game to remain challenging, but I also want the ability to learn. Last edited by Tenet#5765 on Nov 29, 2021, 10:49:18 AM Last bumped on Dec 11, 2021, 6:35:17 AM

" Right now, there's unfortunately only one thing u can do and that is recording ur gameplay / using shadow play. It's a bandaid for sure, but that way u can learn what happened to u in most cases. I won't get into the other points u posted, bcz that's a controversial and much discussed topic already, being the xp penalty. |

My latest instant deaths:
1. Clear the map and kill the boss with zero issues, then run into 4-5 tiny, non-magical, melee monsters and die instantly as if you didn't have multiple layers of defenses, as if you just ran into a pack of map bosses while naked. 2. Do a map with zero damage mods, pop scourge, vaguely see a monster's shadow on the edge of the screen, then a few tiny fireballs fly towards you, then a fraction of the second later you're dead. That's with capped resists, 100% spell suppression, arctic armor, steel skin and cwdt immortal call setup. 3. Just run around and die. Yeah, just die out of the blue with no monsters anywhere on sight, nothing on the ground. |

Dear Sir,
you have worded exactly how i feel about the game. it could be magnificent if it wasn't for the experience penalty and no way to know what killed you. most of the time it's a one-shot from 2 screens a way. i certainly won't be spending anymore money on this game as long is this is not adressed |

" high defenses have little meaning in this game. you are still required to have alien vision to discern different shades of red in a completely dark realm, 3 pairs of eyes to check yourself, your enemies and the environment hazards. you will also need split second reaction that secret service around the world want to recruit you. many builds have few layers of defense but ultimately, the greatest defense is still kill everything on sight and off sight before they kill you. for leveling, join a carry service and you will be 96++, even 100 stress free. but if you complain about losing xp in forum, discussion usually turns nasty. another way is to just do extremely safe content (run few hundreds white maps), avoid all league mechanics, but even then, now and then a stray ghost just explode corpse and kill you instantly, and nobody cares about your time and learning experience. this is POE now. |

Unfortunately ,eventhough it has been reported to death, the unfair death penalty and the sudden death mechanics haven't been addressed by GGG. I have been stuck at level 97 for a very long time. Every time i make some progress....... BOOM..... there comes the sudden death and many hours of gameplay get erased.
I also made the mistake of investing hundrends of exalts (my time farming them) on multi-layered defence just to realize that defences don't matter all that much in this game. I might as well wear paper armor, there is no difference. For as long as people keep paying for the content , the Devs have no motivation to improve on those things. Perhaps something would be done , if profits plummeted, but for now they just don't care. Last edited by Yperkeimenos#2800 on Dec 11, 2021, 1:09:24 AM

These "new player" opinions that cover the same old shit that has been parroted is getting stale, you are not new...you are just posing your post like you are new to try garner some attention.
