Battlemage's Cry + Iron Will removes the inherent melee physical damage bonus from strength
Title, Was trying to make a strength stacking physical build (spectral helix with iron grip, but I tested and this is true for melee builds without iron grip as well) and Battlemage's Cry with the 10 power warcry node actually reduces my damage because it removes the normal strength bonus and 'only' gives 50% of it back through Iron Will.
It's super easy to test too with any melee skill and Iron Will allocated. As long as Battlemage's cry has enough power to trigger the buff (<5 power causes it to not do anything) your physical damage will go down from the loss of the normal strength bonus then up in proportion to the buff effect of the warcry, so if you have less than 20 power your damage will go down on use(though the crit bonus could mess up the numbers a tiny bit). "Buff makes Increases and Reductions to Spell Damage also apply to Attacks at 25% of their value per 5 power, up to a maximum of 150%" Either the wording on the skill is incorrect or this is a bug in which Battlemage's Cry is converting/removing the normal physical damage bonus. Just an update, I tested this combination with a spell to see if this had something to do with 'removing spell damage' and using Battlemage's Cry didn't affect the damage of a level 1 spark at all outside of the crit chance. This tells me it's specifically changing and interacting with the strength bonus rather than spell damage as a whole.

I have also run the test on my end and confirmed that Battlemage's Cry buff effect combine with Iron Will would result in a weird behaviour.
My test setup: Allocated Iron Will keystone passive. Went to act1 coast and surrounded by 5 normal monsters. Using battlemage's cry(buff icon on top left corner) actually lower my damage in the character screen. GGG, please take a look. |
