Steam Deck: Will Poe be compatible with it?

Hey Guys,

Will PoE be compatible with the Steam Deck?

That is, will PoE have Controller support for PC and run it on Proton?
(run on Vulkan, also muss be easy?)
Have the GGG boys said anything about it?

I’m not aware of GGG commenting on the Steam Deck.

The questions are kind of strange - the entire point of Proton and Steam Input is that devs don’t need to do something for their games to be compatible. If you want to know whether PoE (or other games) will be compatible with the Steam Deck you should be asking Valve.

It'll be compatible in a way.
PoE has been running on Linux since I started playing PoE in 2013 and after they introduced the Vulkan renderer better than ever. I'm currently running it on a Wine 6.16 but before that ran it in Steam on Proton for a while, which also worked well.

However, PoE has a history of not running well on even very good hardware, so the Steam Deck might be too weak, but I'm not sure about that. Haven't really looked at the specs.

As for the controls - this might be a problem. The PC version of PoE never had official controller support, so no idea how that would work on the Steam Deck.

So, PoE will very probably run on the Deck, but you might have trouble actually controlling it.

I can legitimately play PoE on a Surface Pro 2... I'm not even joking. GFX turned all the way down its perfect. (kind of)

This thing is meant to play games, so I'm aure it will work, but I'm worried about things like xopy and paste. Chat, and trade. I feel like PoE gimps it own potential when it comes to that stuff because mobile solutions like the Steam deck could allow MORE people to play the game on UNDER 1000 dollars. Which if you ask me... 512gb ssd with 16gb of ram and expandable storage for under 800 dollars is a STEAL.


IF i were GGG I'd be looking into this. Its not a BAD idea. Just put some little inputs into it to help with trade and copy paste functionality.

Maybe even some Controller stuff? You can use KB and Mouse too, but for it to be mobile its a bit gimped for PoE.

Yes, that is to be expected. However, people at least claim that it does not run well on their new shiny hardware.
