3.16 Class option

Hello everyone, i started playing thins game just a week ago. Unluckly 1 week before the new patch release. I'm currently working on the caustic arrow ranger build but it doesn't really fit too much. With the new patch i'm wondering if someone can give me an advice on what class to go. I'd like to be fast and deal tons and tons of dps, possibly without minions or stuff like that.

You are likely going to hate arrow build, 99% people i know that started as bow character quit the game. Same for totems (that are godly but boring)


Generally most people do not enjoy these "stop to attack" characters like totem, mines, traps, sign.... if you need to aim and dodge that becomes even more tiresome after first 100maps

what people love is instant leech cyclone with and without coc, autobombers, rf oaths
and anything melee that is not melee (melee stuff is high dps but has low QoL so only "melee" that can cover the screen with death in instant is played)



If you want the most choice when it comes to builds Witch is great option
after witch it is assassin because almost all crit builds go that and level with traps that are OP even with no gear at all

After these 2, scion is good at everything and best at almost nothing
and after these it is niche builds for duelist,mara and templar.

there is best class for every build, there are no trade offs like "witch does 300% more damage while flicker striking but duelist has 600% more ehp"
because damage=ehp in this game, so you just take the stuff which can one shot the map before you get one shot.

defense changes in this patch will do close to nothing to solve this, because it is monster issue not player issue.
Monster A does 9000000dps
Player A will increase his damage reduction from 90 to 99%
player A is still dead after single second. because that is 90000 dps received

and we get monsters with damage like that every league, sometimes they get fixed after few weeks, sometimes they gain immortality like this patch instead of fixing the damage lel



tl;dr if you want class that has selection of stuff to play witch/scion
if you want to win the game 100% by killing hardest boss the first 3 days of league:low life Assassin with mine and RF boost.

I'd like a dps class with tons of dmg that can solo bosses and clear rooms fast. I usually don't like placing things on the ground, summon minions or place traps. I'd rather do dmg from distance or aoe arround me

Most mobs damage depends on physical (+ depending on map mods, for example + 25% psyhical dmg deal as extra cold / fire / light). Most of players focus on 2-3 main defense mechanics. evryone do elemental resist + chaos resist, + evade / dodge / armor / block ... If a mob attack deals 10,000 thousand dmg, you have 8 thousand hp, and full (75%) elemental resist, then with the mod + 25% physical dmg to fire and 10% reduction armor, you will take damage of 10000x0.9 + (10000x0.25) x 0.25 <- (its 75% elemental resist) = 9000 + 625 = 9625.

But! If you have Transcendence (keystone passive) and convert all physical dmg to element and have almost 90% elemental max resist, and 40-50k armor, you have reduce mobs attack 2x 90%.

In this case, a new league is to facilitate getting 90% resist. They increase the possibility of achieving more armor and Transcendence is not supposed to cost -5% max resist anymore, it is possible to create a tank that will lower the damage by 99% (almost). For example, mob attacks 10,000 dmg + 2,500 elemental dmg.
All dmg will be reduced by elemental resist 90% (because we convert dmg from psyhical to elemental 100%) 10000x0.1 = 1000, + Transcendence which causes armor to reduce elemental dmg now (90%, due to the new league that requires less armora to reduce damage by 90%) 1000x0.1 = 100
The new changes could usher in an era of tanks without using a lot of auras.

For example Cloak of Flame convert 20% physical dmg to fire.

yeah i came back to the manifesto to quote it

Transcendence: Keystone Passive Skill now grants a larger penalty to all maximum Elemental Resistances (previously -5%).

I assume it will be -8% or more so your whole think is wrong because of that, eitherway what i'm saying is that defenses do not matter because of how overtuned mobs are. so it is always safest to just annihilate them just like abyssus helmet does suggest in its lore.


More importantly, we used to have cheap 80% dodge on all characters which is COMPLETELY gone now. It was best defense in the slot taken by everyone from energy shield users to armor users. (dodge+blind removal/change)
It had minimal cost and provided like 60% more ehp

My character will be better than ever because i love hp+armor, but it just is not the case overall.

Right, but now we have to wait till they update tree (if we can capture 10% max resist, in tree, it doesn't hurt too much)

Coming back to the manifesto ... I tried to search and explain to myself that it is a buff .. but I think more and more I think that it is more and more nerfs ... From 3.14 I start to notice that instead of increasing the challenges and introducing cool boss mechanics, they go the easy way by simply reducing the palette character defense and attack ... It's bat at all, poe die. But I play well in Last Epoch, I miss the possibilities like in poe (regardless of the class, you can do any build, for any spell / attack)
