Game working with Intel GPU but Crashing with the Nvidia GPU
|
Hi there,
As mentioned in the title, the problem is pretty simple: Whenever I select the Nvidia GPU to be used by POE within the Nvidia Control Panel, the game instantly crashes with the 'PathOfExile.exe has stopped working' message. When I look into the logs it says the following error '2021/09/24 11:22:13 1592842062 35 [WARN Client 2136] FMOD Failed to load bank FMOD/Desktop/HuhuGrub.bank with error code 18' However, if in the Nvidia Control Panel I attribute the Intel Graphic Card to POE, the game works "perfectly" (with awful graphics). So I guess it has something to do with my graphic cards. There might be a conflict between them, or something's wrong with the Nvidia one. Here are my specs : Windows 8.1 64bit, Intel Core I5, Nvidia GTX 950M, Intel Graphic 5500. I've already updated the Nvidia driver. Hope I can get some help! Last bumped on Oct 21, 2021, 8:31:14 AM

" here is a link to a poe reddit post Doesn't mention what sort of windows they are on about, could be 7, since that was the most popular one back then. I'd suggest getting vista or 10, win8.1 is the windows series equivalent of the child that got kicked in the head few too many times. No rest for the wicked.

" He already used win 8.1 I guess laptop use discounted graphic card that really messed up and usually unable to provide the correct up to date driver anyway. Some people has tired to install the driver from https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us , some success, some not. While the Dell or HP one, Not guaranteed to be up to date. But due to it is a laptop chip, it may need Dell or HP write a custom driver, but they seldom spent manpower to do it for old model, thus leaving the customer to figure out to update the driver with some hardware or registry hack, or accept the fact that gaming laptop is a scam This is the start of forum signature: I am not a GGG employee. UPDATE: for anyone who might come across this problem. Here is the solution I finally found
- Open the game under the Intel GPU card (through the Nvidia graphic panel) - Go in Graphics options and switch the "Renderer" from "DirectX 11" to the "Vulkan" one, save changes and close the game. - Go back to the Nvidia graphic panel and select your Nvidia GPU as the main GPU for the game. - Launch and play the game! This worked for me. Hope it does for anyone else. Cheers! P.S.: thanks to the other for their helpful responses like updating drivers when it's already been done, and not providing any technical solutions besides debating about the quality of laptop gaming etc. |
