Portal instance duration mechanics

Can you increase a (hideout) portal instance duration by going in the portal, or once the map instance has been up for 8-15 minutes once you leave your hideout all the portals are gone?

Scenario for the reason I'm asking:
Was in a map instance for longer than 15 minutes. Switched to a pvp character (spectre bank). Portals were still up. Switched back to main character. Portals were all gone.

Portal mechanics
Portals in town:
Disappear after the instance they are linked to expires.
(8 minutes, or 15 minutes for hub instances)

Portals in hideout:
Never disappears so long as one person is in the hideout.
Disappears instantly if no one is in the hideout & no one has been in the portal for 15 minutes.

Map and Hideout instances will persist until 15 minutes of inactivity.

This is everything I understand about portal/instance durations. If anybody knows or has a link to better information please let me know and I'll try to update this post, Thanks.

instances go away after 8-15 minutes of nobody being *in* them.

you can be in a map for an hour, leave for 5 mins, and come right back to that instance.

Portals do not 'poof' when the instance is deleted. they stay there and BAIT you. you click one and it says 'instance expired' and then they all close.

if you came back to your hideout with the portals all gone, what really happened is your hideout instance crashed, and you got put in a new, identical hideout *without* any portals active.

Does this mean that entering an instance will reset the inactive timer and allow for another 8-15 minutes of inactivity?
Yes.
