Projectile support suggestion: Projectile Focus Support

There's a ton of projectile skills in the game, and sadly a lot of them are very basic in their design and follow the same premise.

To spice things up, I was thinking about a support gem that would turn those projectile skills - both caster and attack ones - into channeling skills in a similar manner that Snipe works.

Focus your powers, channeling your projectile skill to gain stages. Every stage provides additional projectile effects.

Modifiers to attack and cast speed affect the skill's channeling speed.

Stage 1: Projectiles Chian +1 time
Stage 2: Projectiles Fork +1 time
Stage 3: Skills fire an additional projectile

(hidden: base channeling speed is 1 second per stage)

Level 1-20: Skills deal 30-20% less damage
1-20% increased channeling speed

Base quality: 1-20% increased channeling speed
Anomalous: 1-20% increased projectile speed
Divergent: Skills deal 1-20% increased damage
Phantasmal: 1-5% chance to gain an extra stage while channeling

Of course the numbers would need to be checked and balanced out accordingly.

The architecture to turn a skill into another type already exists, which would definitely require much less coding to get this going.

Not soure about the

Level 1-20: Skills deal 30-20% less damage
part since there was no explanation how long it takes to gain a skill but I like the idea. I mean 20%less damage while no moving could be very bad if it takes too long.

The basic idea is to have one powerful clearing ability instead of firing multiple times, at a risk of having to channel and e.g. get stunned.

You get so many clear benefits - like from GMP, fork and chain - that there has to be a negative damage multiplier. The benefit of a skill like this is that you get multiple effects at once, though way weaker than any of the named support gems.

Regular fork support actually grants damage bonuses
Regular chain support chains 2 times
LMP/GMP fires a lot more projectiles

As I said though, the numbers would need to be checked up and balanced accordingly. Another interesting thing could be to make attack and cast speed increases affect the channeling speed to make it smoother.

I can totally understand that and just like I said, it would just be a it too much if the stage timer is to long. If you get 1 stage every 1 sec it may be totally fine. Depends if your clear would be high enough to not get oned. :D Cyclone gets a stage every 0.5 secs (if I'm not mistaken) but you're still moving.
That's true, but if we do go the route of

"
Increases to attack and cast speed affect channeling time

it might be just fine, probably as smooth or smoother than cyclone.
