ADHD protection for alteration and chaos spam
|
Hello, i'd like to suggest a system that would help people who suffer from ADHD like me to not just roll over the mod that we were looking for so hard with just an additional accidental click
![]() Seriously(and yes i do have actual adhd). The amount of times i've just rolled over the mod i wanted for instinctively clicking an additional time that one chaos orb or alteration after having spent more than 700 of either is extremely discouraging and disheartening. Every time it's happened it has almost made me quit the league and definitely did stop me from crafting anymore(or enjoying it altogether). We have 6l break protection through fusing orbs so i think this could be another good addition for people like me,who are extremely prone to rolling over the mods we were searching for so hard. It would, additionally, help newer players know what mods that can spawn in items without the need for using third party tools,as they could see the mods ingame in the drop down list themselves. And before someone suggests it,no,it is not deterministic crafting, you don't change the chances of getting the mod you want at all,it is the same as just spamming alts/chaos,just automatically stopping instead of manually so that you don't just accidentally destroy the mod you were looking for. Thanks in advance and i hope it is considered. Kind regards. Last edited by gaertan#6203 on Sep 8, 2021, 4:14:40 PM Last bumped on Sep 10, 2021, 6:40:10 PM

+1
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! And the winds will cry / and many men will die / and all the waves will bow down / to the Loreley |

well I don't have ADHD and I don't know anyone with it, so I can't say how big that problem is for someone like u.
But ur suggestion is a form of automation and so I doubt GGG will implement anything like that. I mean every1 could do a little script to auto spam alts and it would automatically stop at ur favorite mod. That sounds like a really bad idea. PoE2 0.4 Character:

" it might be a different matter when its a resource consuming automation stuff like auto pickup is problematic because it "creates more currency" such an auto craft function would actually remove more currency than current crafting for most ppl the go to is get a good amount of base items, start alt+aug+regal --> any 3 good mods keep or sell / maybe mastercraft --> not good enough result, start over again the amount of items that have good rolls, but arent the thing that the playyer is looking for would be rerolled instead of kept/sold effectivly removing more items/currency |

I 100% vehemently disagree with any idea like this for two reasons:
1) Botting: any extra automation of using massive amounts of currencies at one time for a specific result (outside of bench crafting) is subject to abuse by bots and will break the game. 2) Hand-holding: why is it the game's responsibility to hold your hand and fix human error? If you are regularly rolling over mods, slow down! You have all the control in the world. This is the same thing about people who complain about trade scams. YOU HAVE ALL THE CONTROL. The game is not at fault if you make a dumb mistake, and it should not be a developer's job to make the game so simplistic and idiot-proof. I apologize for the somewhat mean tone of #2, but it really frustrates me. Have I made mistakes? Sure. But they were MY mistakes. No in-game bug, no hack, just plain and simple dumb mistake. ***all that being said, an easy fix for OP: type in the stat you want into the "search" before you craft. That way, once you hit a keyword, the entire item lights up. Much much bigger signal. ex: looking for t1 life, type "life" into the search and it darkens everything except your item once it hits a life roll. " I could understand the first point,as it might be used by some kind of bots maybe but the second one doesnt make that much sense to me. It is true that it is a "player mistake" to override a mod accidentally but the issue is that the game's crafting is made in such a way that it is very prone to happening (literally spamming the currency on an item for hundreds of times, having to do it several times for things like watchstones... yea) Specially if you have a neurological disorder like me. you can actually compare it to trade scams which you've already mentioned,in example, while it is another "player mistake", devs actually added some measures for avoiding it from happening. in example, like making players have to hover over the items or adding a cooldown if the items are changed. Another example of those "player mistakes" on a system that uses the same basis of crafting of just spamming until you get the desired result is fusings! Why need 6link break protection at all? can't you just slow down the fusing process and just not break it? Well, the thing is,since the system is built around spamming the currency,it is very prone to happening, much like overriding mods. Adding just a simple safety measure,i wouldn't say,is making the game simplistic at all,but you do you i guess. As a side tip, maybe saying idiot proof isnt the best wording,as it implies that people with neurological disorders are idiots :) |

^hey I just edited a suggestion into my last post you may not have seen. Could be really good for you if you don't already do it!

" i actually already do that! however i have a pretty severe case of adhd (got it diagnosed this year actually) and i've overriden mods a couple of times even with the highlight feature (specially after doing hundreds of crafts for several items, like watchstones, its almost impossible for me to be focused enough to avoid it). i ended up just stopping crafting altogether since seemingly there was no realistic way for me to solve it (i tried doing crafts in batch of max 50 rerolls at a time then resting for a couple hours to try to avoid it,but needing 700 average rerolls for some watchstones 50 by 50 just made me stop crafting after a couple days since i wasnt getting anywhere with them) |

" Relatively, this change would narrow the gap between bots and players in the favor of the latter. The more repetitive actions must be taken, the more the player is burdened by it but the bot is not. 1 click: the bot does the 1 click faster - not really an advantage. 800 clicks: the bot does all 800 clicks faster - big advantage. Plus bots do not make mistakes (they could mimic one though). And too many repetitive actions imo inspire botting, esp. if they are boring. Just adding 2ct. about the botting (I'm kind of neutral vs OP's suggestion). Did you try turning it off and on again?
