Losing exp on standard league

Why am I losing my earned exp in Standard League when I die? Just noticed this at lvl 64 in Act 10.

You die after act 5, you lose 5%. You die after finishing act 10, you lose 10%. Can't lose a level though, lowest you can reach is 0% of current level, no matter how many deaths.

There is no mode where you don't lose xp on death (aside from low levels).

Also I believe it is technically delineated by area level, though those breakpoints line up exactly with area levels you kill kitava at, so it's only really relevant for things like delve where you can get into higher level areas before finishing the campaign.

If it is only 5% per death, then why is it that if I have 3.5 of the exp bar sections filled and die twice I dont lose any exp but on the third death I lose it all?

prove it with a video because it's 5% and 10% depending of your "level".....

There is! HC ejects you to standard. :D Then again you probably still lose the exp in addition to the ejection, and I'm a scrub.

They've changed the details a few times over the years, so the info you'll find on the Internet may not be internally consistent.

Based on kaijyuu2's and sanaba_s's statements, the most likely explanation for "I dont lose any exp" is that you died in an area level associated with Act 1 through Act 5 on those deaths (just tested - Delve area level 44 and 45 didn't incur any EXP penalties upon death, but Delve area level 46 did, which jives with kaijyuu2's explanation). So, "die twice I dont lose any exp" would make perfect sense if you were dying in areas at or below area level 45.

"third death I lose it all" doesn't sound right, though. As HanSoloDK said, I'd want a video to believe that. The most likely explanation is that you died multiple times in a >Act 5 area level and didn't notice it was multiple.

Thanks all for the replies. Appreciate the feed back and that it was in a positive way. Getting to understand this more. I agree that I might not have noticed the exp lose until I died multiple times.
