Item filter rendering

"
Added an option to stop items on the ground from rendering if they're hidden by your item filter, which can help improve performance. This can be found under the Game category in Options.

Thanks for the effort but,
I really don't understand this round-about patch.

Why generate 99% useless items that no one pick up or hide using their item filters, then work on a feature to try to not have them render to improve performance?

Why not just don't have them generated in the first place?

It's a short-term solution. It's easier to do this than to completely re-work the drop-system/drop-pool tables.

What you say is of course correct, but I don't see this happening before PoE2 comes out.

In general: they will not improve the game too much anymore before PoE2 comes out because they need to hold back major improvements to make PoE2 shine more.

people has been asking for this for YEARS. and all it took was a patch note to at least somewhat fix it. did a quick test and all useless artifacts are not showing now - and still can be seen albeit only text labels if press 'show' key. whoever says we are 'complaining' please continue to show your loot graphics and eat the low fps, thank you.

not just to make poe2 shine, its got to be a really well thought out new system that lands well.

look at how much people are crying because they lost flask uptime and take 4 seconds rather than2 seconds to kill map bosses? the community is throwing the most absurd tantrums over an attempt to roll back even 5% of the power creep weve had in the last 5 years back to back with league isnt rewarding back to back i want harvest to give me bis items right now.

if ggg turn around and say oh, btw guys we are cutting 95% of loot drops from the game?

can you imagine how badly that is gonna be received? its gonna be like this nerf patch where a large group of people decide theyre quitting before theyve even played it and an even larger group stay to try it out but have decided in their heads from the patch notes that its awful and will go in looking to confirm its awful and then bitch on the forums and try to blackmail the devs to reverse it with leaving threats.

chris has mentioned this before, you cant have a game where every rare that drop is amazing. right now maybe 50 rares drop in a pumped map, and theyre all shit. it takes like 100 maps to find something rly good and it has to be that way otherwise there woudl be no gear chase. but if they remove the 50 drops and make it 5 drops, but theyre much better drops, and its balanced so that even with 5 drops per map it still takes 100 maps to find something great like it did before with 50 drops, so the gear is 10x better, on paper that is great. in reality that is great...

but what will happen in reality is a player walks into a map, instead of getting 50 rares they get 5 rares and theyre all still bad because it takes 100 maps to find the good one still, all they see is you took away 90% of their drops and didnt make the loot better because all the loot they found was still shit.

and then they throw this massive hissy fit and tell chris hes a bad person whos out of touch and ggg doesnt play their game and they dont listen to the community and dont know how to make an arpg and their vision sucks and the game is dead if they dont roll it back RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

thats whats gonna happen. so if we had a mature community who actually understood game design, whats best for the game and how to understand changes in a wider context yes, they could fix loot drops sooner by rolling out something, taking feedback, adjusting, more feedback, adjusting, get it right over a few months. we dont, we have a reactionary bunch of people who just throw tantrums, make really nasty insults and attempt to blackmail the devs. thats why we cant have nice things, thats why ggg has to be very careful and do nothing until theyre really sure this is the best way they can impliment it.

and then people will still hate the change and be horrible about it because people = ....
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
Thank you Snorkle_uk!

That was one of the best descriptions of the headache that GGG has I've seen for a long while.

You are wrong in so many aspects, but I will focus on the most visible.

If you play a game and cant find items that improve your character, then you will stop playing that game, as it is a waste of time. Progression is like the holy grail in an ARPG, no progress, no game.

Players do not expect to play one map and have BIS, but they do expect to play maps and always find something useful, as that is what keeps the motivation going.

As an example,

since the nerf to summoners wands, I have yet to find a +1 wand. They simply put, no longer exist, while before I could find them or craft them after giving it maybe 50 tries or maps.

I might have played 1k maps and not a single wand with +1 has dropped and I spent thousands of chaos trying to craft one.

If there is a progression, I will play three months, if there is not, I stop after a few days and this applies to the majority of gamers.

Rewards are needed, nobody does something just for the laugh. Not in RL, not in VL.
So yes, we do need to be rewarded again, we need to find gear that has a use to us, even if its just a tiny bit better each time. D3 has found a good solution for this, there are three item tiers for legendary items, reforging and so on.

You can work on your gear for many months and will always find a small improvement, this is what POE is missing, as nobody expects epic loot in their first map, but progression.
