"[Artifact drop] doesn't really cause additional inconvenience" vs screenshot of Artifact drops:

" ![]() Note: I deliberately picked up all non-Artifact items (small currency, Rare items, currency-recipe items) to declutter this screenshot before taking the image. That means that the image is already biased in Chris's statement's favour. And yet... I don't think anyone sane can agree that the posted screenshot "doesn't really cause additional inconvenience." To be fair, this issue is kind of "off topic" from the one Chris was trying to cover. Essentially, there are two complaints that players commonly have about new league currency design:
Chris was only addressing 1 here, and a lot of players felt cheated because he didn't mention 2 at all in this particular reddit post/announcement. That said, 2 is still a pain point for players. It just Feels Bad (TM) to have to click so many times to acquire the league currency. Would really rather prefer the conditional loot vacuum, that being that if you click up one of a type of currency, you pick up any other copies of the exact same currency in a large radius (click one Lesser Black Scythe Artifact, execute pickup action on all nearby Lesser Black Scythe Artifacts, for example). This would reduce the tedium while still allowing for the ever-mocked "weight" and allowing discerning players to continue to ignore loot they want to ignore. Need game info? Looks like spreadsheet gaming to me. Or do you actually check which kinds of artifacts dropped?

Chris might think what he want, and tell any stories he like to tell, but online numbers shows better.

" Huh, my understanding of "spreadsheet gaming" was that you try to minmax things by calculating various choices and picking the best one. That doesn't seem to relate to my original post at all, which is just saying that lots of Artifact dropped items = lots of clicks. No calculations, no choosing what is best over something else. Your statement sounds kind of backwards - you're saying I should be spreadsheet gaming by deciding that some Artifacts are less worth picking up than others and only picking up certain Artifacts so I don't have to click as much? OP's example is perfectly indicative of the far larger Splinter/Shard Problem that Expedition is only a small part of. And, to be honest, not even the worst offender in the category: both Perandus coins and Rogue Markers tend to drop in 12+ side by side piles of coins. It's honestly unacceptable that clicking on ONE of these piles doesn't automatically collect all identical currencies within a small radius. It's bad for the gameplay experience and it honestly doesn't even make sense: when you've got a pile of 10 coins sitting right next to a pile of 20 coins, what you've got is a pile of 30 coins. That's what a pile IS.
I don't understand why, in 2021, this isn't a thing yet, when it was in Diablo in 1997. As in, Diablo ONE. Not talking auto-pickup or any of that, literally just talking about "if there are 100 of a stackable item in the same spot, one button should be enough to scoop them up because those individual piles wouldn't be distinct anyway." |
