One month into league, no one feedback the shield mobs yet another totally imba 3.15 mob?
" wow, really I would not know that as a normal player, the description does just state 'chance to hit' not chance to hit dodgy monsters. maybe big ducks streamer was correct, there really are too many status conditions that are similar yet distinct - chilled not freeze, ignite not burned (i got this bad thought new instilling on ignite just works and i got burned to death), maimed not hindered not slowed or temporal, corrupted not bleed (even though graphic effects looks the same and the feeling dying to 1 sec die wtf happened same lol. also, this 'attack from behind' - is this a precursor of things to come, next time we have to hit mobs from a different angle to inflict damage.. i noticed too that this is new 'mechanic' of this league was not there before. as a player it is already so confusing to work with all these statuses, which is why i feel ggg programmers are god mode, the variables to make all these work must be a nightmare.. Think someone brought it up....
Your issue with this is mostly the fact that you put 60% dodge on your mobs. These guys die fine but when you start stacking their defensive layers Mash the clean

I had to squint at the gif to realize what it was you're fighting.
It's those, the soldiers... I think the whole purpose for them is to not fight them from the front unless you have a block reduction gem. They have a slow enough turn rate that you can get behind them and deal some damage before they turn to face you again. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! And the winds will cry / and many men will die / and all the waves will bow down / to the Loreley |

My spectral throw scion is handling them fine ^_^
Oh. I was reliably informed by some rando here that I am in fact not playing a spectral throw character in current year PoE. But well-earned fisking aside, I like that we have to actually think about what we're selecting, the interactions of the various nodes and that the monsters actually require some tactics other than "Shoot Faster!!!!!" and "Nuke Harder!!!" This beta-league shows promise in the direction of PoE II. When I see arguments like, "I just like to zone out and not pay attention," - and those arguments HAVE been made - I wonder why such people would even play a game like that. I hope the devs continue making PoE exciting and challenging. If I wanted to "not pay attention to something" I'd.... I'd... well... ...actually.. I wouldn't. Because I don't like to not pay attention. If I'm doing something, I want to focus on it, engage with it, and be challenged by it. |

well i will go with that for bosses etc - as it is for certain boss fights we already have to sit through a 'quick' 30 min video how to boss guide. for a general mob to have this kind of attention would be kind of extreme.

" Agree, bosses are already challenging. Most content has been always challenging every league. Mapping should not be challenging, should be easy and relaxing because is not the endgame, is just another leveling and farm zone. No one one wants to spend half an hour doing league content on every map because every mechanic has some bs that can prevent you from doing damage. And you can flank those guys up to some point, depends on your build. Not that easy if you are ranged and have to go too near to them and be that exposed to all the monsters. It's not like proximity shield where you can still hit monsters behind them. These protect an entire screen of monsters while they are with their shields up. I think more challenging doesn't mean more tough to kill or monster do insane ammounts of damage offscreen. Challenge and complexity can be a puzzle like Maven mind game, that's a fun fight. Or Sirus and the conquerors are fun to fight too. Cool abilities, cool mechanics in general and they feel both challenging to fight and rewarding. You have to prepare for each fight differently, etc. Not the same with these guys, you just know they will be there every expedition encounter to ruin your day and slow you down. |

" Why would I want to play something I'm not engaging with? That's like playing chess with a friend while screwing with your iPhone. I for one love the jump scares and having to dodge and zip around to avoid getting clobbered. " No one? Qualify that. And 30 minutes? There is exaggeration and there is parody. You should be careful when dancing that line if you want to be taken seriously. Or maybe you're trying to be funny. Who can tell these days. |

It does take half an hour or so because you first have to clear all nearby monsters, then check all remnants, then plan which order you start and where you go from there, then you realize you can't because remnants are placed like shit and you must think another strategy, then you realize the remnant you placed a few seconds earlier didn't exactly cover all the stuff you wanted to so back again, then at the end you realize you must go back and replace something because it will make monsters either unkillable or rippy (or you already checked that while placing explosives taking more time to read everything as you go), then you pop them. Then you depending on your build it may take little time to kill them or much longer than every other content because of those skellie blocks.
I was playing a RF and it could easily do it in seconds since it doesn't hit. Hitting builds take several minutes, melee take much less, ranged is a pain because you need to go closer and check if this time your spells/attacks are doing damage while not being killed in the process. I agree with you that zerging is not fun, some thinking is, but this is like overdoing it in middle of a map where you don't precisely want to spend much more time than needed because they are all pretty much the same, bunch of random monsters and the boss Now if they want to make mapping more interesting they could make bosses a bit more challenging and not the joke they are, some are far too easy and others have stupid skills/setups that make them way more harder but more interesting at the same time. Like Glacier boss, or ssome of the "newer" bosses like forbidden woods, crimson township. The expedition bosses are fun too, I have only encountered one so far Vorana and offscreen wrecked me because map mods were already challenging and she has some insane aoe and lots of proyectiles, but that was more interesting than shield block guys for me that just slowly creep towards you blocking all your damage. |

" Yea GGG keep adding and changing stuff all the time. Even i don't know a lot of things and i have played every league since 2013. This league monsters get player defenses so perfect knowledge of them is required to understand what is happening and why. About the attack from behind, i am not certain that it is actually a thing. I just noticed that my mines that procced from behind the shield mobs were dealing more damage to them than the ones placed in front. It might be just an rng thing. It would be nice if there was an animation to show that hits from the front were being blocked like a shield recoil from the mobs. GGG's programmers are certainly good. I wish the balance team were the same. I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready. " you seem to go along with ggg line of thought that we click it to feel it it is precious etc, go slow so you can take in the sights. well, to a certain extent that's true, for maybe the first, second time? now do that for 160x maps (and another 160x for awaken/maven?) - how about you play 160 chess games, would you approach it with the same play process like the first time? ggg seem to forget that POE is no longer the beta it once was, Act 1-3 and that's it. We now have > 10 leagues and stacking 10 league mechanics, while maintaining the same 3 month league cycle? somethings got to give, we are FORCED, in a sense, to have to go fast to be efficient - why do you think people reach 100 within one week of league? Why organize races then? everyone just go slow and be happy. Again as mentioned, it is somewhat fair for bosses to have some prep time, but if i were to read forums watch videos for normal mapping that's really pushing it a bit far. albeit there are vids on how to map, really. even if the league mechanic dont take 30 mins, at 10 min each that is still 160 maps x 10 mins, that still adds up. in any case, the BCR gem that was suggested does help - before i was considering to skip league mechanic altogether. So you can play at tactical gameplay positing around a white map mob, now I just pop the BCR gem and spam my skill like before. p/s - you keep saying your 2 exa build taking you to T16 maps ez mode, please do share your profile so at least we can see how your build works. thanks. |
