Boneshatter MASSIVE BUG - Self Damage Inflickted By Trauma is NOT Mitigated By Defences

"Removed" for now, I may have encountered a bug somehow, but testing it again with the same setup right now it now seems to work properly and I can get easily to 25 Trauma stacks without killing myself.

Spoiler
Hey everyone,

TLDR: Damage Mitigation from self inflicted damage from Trauma is calculated incorrectly, or simply put it ignores your defenses.

While testing out Boneshatter on a level 79 Berserker, I got a liking to the skill and wanted to see how a Juggernaut would handle the self inflicted damage from Boneshatter's Trauma-Stacks.

Note: I was using a Level 26 Boneshatter

On my Berserker I could go to around ~8-10 Trauma-Stacks and I would start to chunk my HP pool for around 1/3 per swing. At around 12-14 Stacks I would kill myself.

I respecct the character to a Jugg and went all out on the defensive nodes and picked:
1. Unbreakable
2. Unstopable
3. Unflinching
4. Unrelenting

Defensive stats of the Jugg:
8 Endurance Charges
~30k Armour (before Flasks and other buffs)
Permanent Enduring Cry Buff up
+8% reduced Phys dmg from Determination Watcherseye
Fortify
4k Life
Over leech from Immortal Ambition + Hematophagy leech nodes

Pantheon:
Soul of Tukohama for 8% phy dmg reduction
Soul of Solaris for 6% physical damage reduction

Other things that may be of importance:
1. Boneshatter level 26
2. Helmet Enchant with "Boneshatter has 24% chance to grand +1 Trauma"
3. Resolute Technique keystone
4. Immortal Ambition keystone from a Timeless Jewel
5. high attack speed
6. Rage Support for higher attack speed
7. Level 3 Empower in a Cane of Kulemak with +3 level of socketed support gems
8. Chest used was Blunderbore
9. Chains of Emancipation Belt + Rotblood Promise Ring with Temp Chains socketed
10. Replica Atziri's Foible Amulet
11. Empire's Grasp Gloves for reverse Knockback with Vulnerability Corruption

With those stats I was expecting to be able to reach very high Trauma-Stacks with the Jugg without breaking a sweat.

So, for the test I went into a Tier 6 Arid Lake map WHITE to test the waters at the map boss. When I reached around ~10-12 Trauma-Stacks I was chunking myself for around 1/3 of my HP pool per swing and when reaching ~14-15 Stacks I would kill myself.

THAT, was a massive surprise for me as you may have guessed.

To make 100% sure what I was encountering was not just a fluke, I got myself for the next test map an additional ~68% less Physical Damage taken from Hits.

Stats:
25% less physical damage taken from Doppelgänger Guise
13% less physical damage taken from Arctic Armour
10% less damage taken from Nature's Patience
19% less damage taken from Strength of Blood Keystone with 38% total life recovery/s from leech
34% less damage taken from hits from Fortify (+70% inc. Fortify Effect)

This is on top of all the before mentioned defensive stats the Juggernaut already had, excluding the over leech due to Strength of Blood's downside of losing leech.

Result after going into the next map, a WHITE Tier 6 Arid Lake Map:
Absolutely no f**king difference to the test before

I would start to chunk myself at around 10-12 Trauma-Stacks for around 1/3 of my life per swing and when reaching 14-15 Stacks I would kill myself.

While just standing still and hitting the boss only every now and then to keep up leech for Strength of Blood, I would take almost ZERO damage from the boss.

That's all for now, thanks for reading and take care.

Kind regards,
TheVoid

I've had no issues mitigating the trauma so far on Inquis with much less investment (despite multiple other issues with the skill). I don't even notice it at 10+ stacks on level 20 boneshatter. How much self damage does each stack do at level 26 gem?

Also fyi, "less" mods are multiplicative and you cannot be more than 90% immune to a damage type. You can't just add those numbers together.

A level 26 Boneshatter will yield in 418 Trauma damage taken per Trauma,
which is ~215% the damage you take compared to a regular level 20 gem.

Sorry to argue in a bug report thread, but no, that's not how "less taken" stacks. Each "less" mod is a separate multiplier. You are calculating it like "reduced". All of those "less taken" mods in your original post combine to be ~68.6% less damage taken, not 101%.
Ah F* me, I must be high.

You are right with the calc and np about arguing, it's half the fun :^)

I will correct my error, thanks.

Kind regars,

Bumping thread for visibility but could someone from GGG confirm if this is a bug or not? I feel like boneshatter should be mitigated by defenses since it counts as a hit.

Edit: Sorry to be more specific, I have heard reports that Boneshatter does not proc Unbreakable, there is a thread on reddit about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PathOfExileBuilds/comments/q92xgu/i_wasnt_going_to_start_with_boneshatter_again_but/hgu28sf/?context=3
