Thinking of quitting Poe after 8 years of playing since closed beta and never missing a league

So, am I quitting because of nerfs? Not exactly.

I divide nerfs in two categories:

1. Nerfs to damage and overall power
2. Nerfs to fun.

I picked Nebuloch build exactly the league they decided to nerf dual wield. Played my baby CWC Mjolner Purifying flame/Wave of conviction last league when they decided to shred Wave's damage pen, and damage wasn't that great even before nerf. You nerf top 1% of playerbase, and much of the community which were using that skill or mechanic get rekt as a collateral damage. But whatever, Ill still play my baby.

But when you nerf the fun out of certain build, that's when I don't have a desire to play the game anymore (mana cost on triggered skills).

That's what happened when they first gutted cast on crit and there was a huge backlash and many players left the game.

Poet's pen got nerfed multiple times and I still play Volidead, but after this crap (triggered skills spending mana) I don't see Slingers, Cocs, Mjolners and Poet pens being at all viable.

GGG probably plans another "one spell trigger per attack" crap they tried to pull years ago, but this time, I do not want to stick around.

Poe for me, among other things, is enjoying the game from visual standpoint, and climaxing when I see that eye candy of 3+ spells coming out of my character and covering a pack of mobs and destroying them.

Another point was that the game is too easy.

FOR WHO!?!?!?!?!?

TOP 1% of players who nolife the hell out of game and are talented players?

Please share statistics what percentage of player base completed (genuinely) The feared? Feared in hardcore? Feared in hardcore, self found and private league with all mods? Shaper in all these variants? Uber elder?

Somehow if you make Mathil glass cannon build and shred Minotaur in 2 seconds in softcore and die 5 times while doing it then the game is too easy.

Ok, if that is your goal, the beauty of the game is that it offers as much challenge as you can take. As ive said, even if you play sc, play a private league with all mods enabled and set yourself a goal to kill uber elder.

But even if we're talking about just zooming through t16 maps, how long does it take to reach that stage? Couple of days if you're no lifer. Two days of intense playing of the game just to start playing the game basically does not correspond with "easy game".

And god forbid if yore playing hardcore, where there's another end game boss - lag, and you're constantly replaying those 2 days.

And while we are at league longevity - you know why many people don't stick in HC for a long time in league?

Because after a month, if you rip and want to reroll, and need some specific piece of gear, good luck buying it from a guy who was last online 2 weeks ago.

Many times I wanted to reroll my ripped Mjolner guy but good luck finding white socket Brass dome which I need for it, or Megalomaniac with Overlord.

And about that RHoa busuiness? WHy are you comparing poe from 8 years ago and now, in difficulty?

Why is RHoa in mud flats supposed to kill us now? It was supposed to kill us then because that was the endgame then. I was there where we were farming Kuduku in merciless difficulty in a 6 man party, so the game was paced differently then - Rhoa in mudflats then and RHoa now are not the same thing.

THe game is paced differently now and there's a shit ton of challening content beyond Ledge lvl 6.

And what about casuals? I consider myself not a casual at least when leveling is concerned, but what's the point of making act 1 difficult? No lifers are still gonna destroy the content, and new players and casuals are gonna say "fuck this shit", when the get rekt by a white mob.

I was working on a construction site when a guy asked me what I am playing. I said poe, and he said "oh yea, I've heard of this game, but I don't wanna start it because it looks so complicated and terrifying and I don't have years to learn it"

Poe is so fucking hard and overwhelming, and you're constantly adding new mechanics, new information, new splinters, new orbs, and never taking stuff out - it is inevitable that the influx of new players is going to decrease because such a vastness of information is going to be too much and overwhelming for human brain to handle, unless you were there like me for years.

So anyway,

in some ways im bitter, but it's their game, and if that's the direction they want to take, of course it's their right, I just don't want to share that "single spell at the time" experience.

Was fun while it lasted, great experience over the years.

Even if you didn't, I saw a lot of people take Chris literally here, and there's no need to fear that at least, you won't get ganked by rhoas and pirates and instantly die. How do I know that? Because their AI works differently now, they're pretty much unable to do it.

Chris was just walking the memory lane and reminding us what it looked like back then and that PoE was built on people that like their games a tiny bit on the cruel-ruthless-merciless side. That said, I don't expect they will go full carnage on this, it should still be a lot easier than, say, a mayhem league.

In the end, it costs us nothing to try the next league, as always, so I'm keeping an open mind.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
