Hi,
I've been following PoE development since the beginning but I've never had time to dive into the game. Recently I've got some free time so I decided to give it a spin. Unfortunately after few hours I realized that the mechanics are far more complicated than in Diablo or Titan Quest.

After reading some guides I've got some doubts if this is a game for casual player like me, who can play few hours per week. What I'm most worried is that I will not be able to finish the game as my character is built without any tutorials or guides and that I might not be lucky to get some rare gear that is needed in the end of the game. I just like to experiment and not follow some meticulously prepared builds that every second PoE player uses.

Are my doubts justified?

Yes.

PoE has unfortunatly become a overcluttered mess changig so much so often, that even community driven supporting tools can´t keep up.

This is a very good video. All POE beginners should watch it. Like the video and others have said, you can play POE casually after you know everything, but to know everything you are going to have to put in a lot of hours first. Then again, some things change every league so you have to put in the hours to stay current as well.

Another reason POE is not beginner friendly is that there are a lot of toxic people on the forums and in game.

I can recommend Grim Dawn for casual players.

POE is not for casual players and those telling you otherwise are people who believe that playing 3 to 4 hours per day, every day, is casual.

I am a casual player. I have been for 11 years now. I can put the game down for weeks at a time, or spend a weekend leveling an old, neglected character. I have often passed entirely on leagues I didn't care for, and occasionally binged on leagues I really enjoyed. I know and acknkowledge that my knowledge of the game is extremely shallow, relative to the potentials of what a player could know, and I'm alright with that.

I have fun with PoE, because I don't set my bar according to what others can do, any more than I do in real life. That's the secret beauty of this game: It has multiple levels of what you can get out of it. The trick is knowing one's limits, and not pressing beyond where the game is still fun. =^[.]^=

I love Path of Exile as a quick run in game. Go in, slay some monsters and clean Siosa's part of The Library, read some scrolls or books, get a lead on some artifact in the Vasteri Desert, and go searching around and use the said artifact on the Horns of Kitava to see if it works. Most of the time it doesn't make a reaction... but I'll find the item that will destroy them eventually!

I understand you perfectly well, it also put me off many games, but rather PvP games. In HS, for example, everyone played with prepared decks of cards (apart from the extreme amount of RNG). In Path of Exile I have fun creating new builds and discovering the mechanics myself. In PvE games like PoE I don't have this problem

its for casuals as much as any other game with alot of content, there are players that hit both high challenge completion and content clearance every league with casual playtime the key is to actually use the 3 months available for a league instead of 2 weeks like many players do.

But also why would a casual play measure their purpose in the game as clearing all the content, if they are having fun and have new things to do its likely to keep them and their enjoyment going for longer.

I have friends that completed the story then called it a day, is there a problem with that? They didn't think so and I doubt they'd say it wasn't for them because they are casual.

Point is to have fun, thats it.
