PoE for casual players
|
Hi,
I've been following PoE development since the beginning but I've never had time to dive into the game. Recently I've got some free time so I decided to give it a spin. Unfortunately after few hours I realized that the mechanics are far more complicated than in Diablo or Titan Quest. After reading some guides I've got some doubts if this is a game for casual player like me, who can play few hours per week. What I'm most worried is that I will not be able to finish the game as my character is built without any tutorials or guides and that I might not be lucky to get some rare gear that is needed in the end of the game. I just like to experiment and not follow some meticulously prepared builds that every second PoE player uses. Are my doubts justified? I know that PoE is not focused on P2W, but I'm afraid that I will have to spend hours on grinding to get finally a good gear or currency. I'm not really interesed in trading - I just want to start the game, slain some monsters and get some nice gear :) Last bumped on Jul 5, 2021, 10:46:33 AM

With whatever little time you have you can always play standard, it has no time limits whatsoever.

If you dont expect to be able to "finish" the game or reach level 100, and if you dont compare yourself to some streamer/hardcore/nolife-gamers, you can have a lot of fun and a good time in POE even as casual gamer id say.
Playing Standard league as dW2005 suggested might be a good tipp then though. I think that should be your main guideline: Is the game fun for me? If you can answer this question with "yes", go for it and keep going. If you start tending to "no", you might want to think about stepping back for some time or stop playing at all. Otherwise you might end up as one of the countless frustrated players that ravage this forum and demand the game beeing changed so that they can reach the - for their playstyle - unrealistic goals they have set themselves... :) "Glattes Eis, ein Paradeis, für den, der gut zu tanzen weiß" - F. " Yes, you wont be able to finish the game " Yes, you wont get lucky, you need trade for gear. Without meta build - even if you will, it won't work at end game. " You wont get gear just by slain monsters and without no-lifing. Or you can play around in act 5 standard skipping all league content as others suggesting. If its fun for you - go ahead. |

" It really depends on what you consider as 'finish the game' . If you mean, just finish the storyline and campaign, then you should have no problem finishing it with your own build and time you have. If you mean, complete all content and bosses, then no. Not even close. From after the campaign, the difficulty ramps up exponentially, and the very late game is reserved for streamers that do nothing but play PoE all day and night. "There he goes. " Its so weird that i have a lot of friends that have a regular job, life, family, (young) children even and are still able to reach the end of endgame and do all bosses... you can do that easily with like 2-3h playtime/day in a season (even way before the season ends), but i dont think that can be still called "casual" tbh... What you deliver there is hyperbole at its best, as always :) "Glattes Eis, ein Paradeis, für den, der gut zu tanzen weiß" - F. Nietzsche

i'm playing with people who take a week to reach act 10, no problem there.
if you're taking it slow and have no abitions to "win the game" you have no need to dive deep into the complex mechanics of poe. take care of your resistances, get life values on all of your gear, don't throw away or use a mirror of kalandra if you you happen to find one and you're good to go. just get the basic gem configuration and skill tree setup of a easy beginner build from the forums and start having fun. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

" I don't think so. You probably don't know what challenges you are gonna face. You need to make long term plan for your campaign, atlas and other content progression and most importantly your build progression. Also, if you want to do everything in one shot, I advise you to build your PoE knowledge more than gameplay. |

Its entirely up to you if its for you or not OP, the point is to be entertained and this is a game where if your goal is to do all the content you have the potential to be entertained for a long time as a casual.
