I think doors were introduced back in 0.10 or something. Also, GGG is willing to put more doors in the game if possible, as shown in the addiction of those membrane-like doors in Belly of the Beasts (which did not exists in the early days).

Doors are meant to do two things: increase the tedious heap of clicking and slowing a character's progress in a map. Well, that and stopping Sparks from flying all around the map, but that was so 3.2. Automatic Doors in incursions are justified because, well, you are under a tight timer and you can't really waste 1 second in waiting for a door to open (note how the "stop projectiles" function is still there, as they open only when the character approaches).

To summarize: they have the technology to reduce the unnecessary clicking, but they will most probably never do that because reason (put it under the "feel the weight" meme if you wish)

The idea of having the door is to have you click on it, which locks you temporarily in place, so that mobs behind the doors can greet you with all their spells and welcome drinks.
This is most obvious in Vaal side area.

More and more maps have very constricted pathway as well.

Basically they want you dead.
Doors are dumb. It's just a bad QoL.

Oh damn you remind me about the stupid doors in this game....

I almost forgot how annoying they are and just opened them...
Doors should have higher impact on gameplay. Why enemies attack us without any fear? What is the point of having doors if not to prevent player from going further?

For immersion reasons whenever group of enemies notice us for a first time some of enemy group members should run away.
During phase of "running away" they should become immortal and enter sequence of opening, closing and barricading a door.
In order to proceed further we would have to choose one of our "heist friends" and call them to open doors for us. Beware, every door need spicifc type of skill to be opened. If you choose wrong person you will have to wait some time as form of penalty and try again.


Doors are stupid mechanic without any purpose? Fixed
Heist feels out of place? Fixed.
Game needs to be more immersive? Done.
Extra bonus: new door minigame. POG!

I'm fine with doors so long as they're the ones you can use move abilities to get through instead of opening. Back in the early days of Forsaken Masters, Tora would have you go to beast lairs to kill the corrupted monsters. Some of the lairs had barred doors which I used a lot at the time to bait beasts which were way too strong for me. They can't follow me through the still-closed door, so I'd jump behind it and safely pick off the monsters who gathered there.

To this day, doors you can jump through are still very useful, especially in juiced red maps and you're getting your ass kicked by suped up monsters.

The only doors I hate are the Heist doors. Too damn slow, especially the ones where work speed doesn't improve it any such as demolition.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

all doors should just be removed except in Heist where it is part of the mechanic and functional properties of the rogues. In maps, Vaal side areas, and I'd venture to even say in incursions (even tho they automatically open when approached), doors are just too dangerous when you got a max pack of ranged mobs all shooting their crap at you at the same time. The moment you open the damn door, you're shotgun'd to all hell with very little time to react right after clicking the door. When in a tight corridor especially going into a small room packed with them, this is just ridiculous because you really don't have anywhere to go except open the door and die to 10,000 projectiles at the same time, happens especially in Vaal side areas with certain Vaal Mob types which is really frustrating.
