Can't change directx version in production_Config.ini

I'm playing on steam, production_Config.ini is located at: /proc/513626/cwd/steamapps/compatdata/238960/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Path of Exile. I tried to change "directx_version" to 9, 9ex and 9Ex, also tried to change from "renderer_type=DirectX11" to "renderer_type=DirectX9", but it does not seem to take effect, i can modify other settings like screen resolution, but changing directx version does not take effect. Why?
