Game freezes and doesnt respond on loading screen

19 out of 20 imes i open poe the game does the GGG intro and begins to not respond.
At the 1 out of 20 times i get to the login screen, i get to play with no performance issues besides the usual ones i had for years, and after pressing the change character or after getting disconected it begins to not respond again. It started today, i had no sort of problem like this at league launch or the days prior. :( Last bumped on May 9, 2021, 10:49:43 AM

You are not alone.
Many have had these issues since the first patch of the season. However, this is the first I've seen where someone else can get it to run sometimes and will also crash when trying to return to login or character select. If you do not get disconnected will it run normally for hours? Have you changed anything to try to get it to run more reliably? It seems like after every patch/hotfix more examples of this issue appear in PCs that ran it fine from season start up til that point. I suspect that something about the login screen rendering or audio playback is causing this, (as some people are finding more reliable launches by messing with audio devices or wiping shadercache files). Also It's the only time where the camera really sweeps that low, which stands out to me. Final question for you is: does your music ever start playing when the game crashes at launch? (Mine will play Templar Court ambiance sometimes but never music if it crashes.) |

" 1. I believe i could play for hours but my internet does not allow for such 2. I have done some things that didnt seem to work (such as restarting my pc, going to my DOCUMENTS folder, removing the path of exile folder, and putting it back), but what gives me better results is just waiting a bit instead of opening it constantly (i had to have the pc turned on for some time for it to work, and the load on the cpu and sorts didnt seem to matter, nor heat). 3. I remember mine played some weird ambient music that i hadnt noticed before it began happening. Ty for answering im glad your working on the issue or atleast trying to find its cause As i write this i got my POE to open properly with no gimmiks, but again the pc was turned on for a bit. |

Yeah I'm still testing things and fiddling with settings every day but I hope GGG is referring to this when they mention other weird bugs they are trying to track down.
Thank you, I'm going to try some of this "waiting a bit" strategy. Also after this most recent hotfix there are now more new cases of people reporting inability to login who had no issues up til this point. :( |

" Im begining to feel like its really just random when i can actually get to play, but i noticed that when it freezes on the 2 gears animation, after maybe 1.5 secs my taskbar appears for a split second. edit: might as well add that in the Task Manager the game is using my CPU and memory but 0% of the disk while its frozen Last edited by SaveliyLG49#1933 on May 8, 2021, 2:57:55 PM

I usually have to try with both links in the POE folder under Steam Apps then Common. Usually one or the other will let me get into the game after a few tries. It then runs smoothly from then on. I also had the problem begin with the first patch of the season and it to me seems to be something to do with the going to the login screen from launch. Hopefully GGG can sort this out in a future patch.

Seems to be a very common issue as majority of my friends have got this and just flat out said eff this and quit playing due to how tired there are with the frequency of problems with this game that either take forever to get fixed or not fixed at all. However this recent one seems to coincide with the latest patch i believe the one from last week and a windows update. For me I uninstalled that windows update that i think happened the same time the patch came out. One relief I found was using waitforpreload on my startup of poe and the missing textures and FPS problem is gone for me. But then again poe just crashed for me using poe trade
