Thoughts on GGG throwing sponsored money at big streamers?
I'm interested in what the general consensus is among the community when it comes to GGG marketing. We all know the game isnt new player / casual friendly, so what is the benefit of highlighting the games weak points in terms of market visability?
It will be interesting to see how the sessions go, and most importantly how the chat reacts to some of the PoE experiences that the streamer will encounter. What will they say when "M" gets pressed and they see $36-64 armor skins, charges for stash space, skill effects, supporter packs in the amount of full priced games, etc... What will they say about the mechanics and loot filters (haha if they dont use one) And to be fair, the progression through the acts isnt the strong point of PoE, so depending on the time spent in the game, I dont think it shows PoE in a good light. Hell, maybe just getting your name out there is enough to generate some additional MTX sales, but imo doesnt do the game much of a service presentation wise. Maybe GGG just wants to push those concurrent numbers to the max, and fuck all on retention. Bold move if so. Either way this should be an interesting league to watch. I personally dont think they done much with this league, and where the bloat where it is, I'm not interested in banging my head against the wall again. PoE really is a niche game, lets see how a more general public views it. " Mathil made a spectral throw skill back then tested the mtx and settled on it. In the week ggg sold 600k $ of this mtx so yes streamer have an insane impact on games. Games that actually undestood it and used it well got very very good ROI such as apex legend at his launch or Fall guys. Streamer are now probably the most powerful advertisement for video game editor and ggg is learning on it lately. I think the self temp chain nerf was for this side too because it make the game look like a joke if you join a stream and see a streamer doing that all day. To vanquish without perils is to triumph without glory.

I'm gonna be honest here, I've thrown in too many hours to know what a new player could possibly experience now. It might be overwhelming with how much they added over the years but I'm sure big streamers will have a whole group of fans on discord or whatever willing to help them at every turn.

tbf someone coming in here is probably expecting something complex. they probably heard about the huge tree and overall complexity and maybe that's what got them interested in the first place ;)
i'd be more worried about the performances. that stuff can easily push someone away. Last edited by teksuoPOE#2987 on Apr 16, 2021, 11:03:09 AM

Don't really care. GGG uses their money to make a game. It's a game. It's fun. So long as that keeps going, they can do what ever they think is best to achieve that goal. They obvious think that spending money on advertisement nets them a positive return on revenue. Probably does. That model has worked for over 200 years.

" Yes but Mathil is a PoE streamer and so is his audience. What would Shroud viewers for example think about PoE, or a $15 skill effect MTX, or a $64 cosmetic armor set, when they dont know a ton about PoE? Or loot pinatas with no filter? And so on... " That's fair too. Screen clutter and performance are a real issue, but not as much in the early game. Unfortunately it progressively gets worse. And boy if there are terrible crashes or server performances, that hurts too (a GGG's track record here....well its questionable at best) "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Shroud know a bit about PoE so he would have not this problem and i think most that will be in the "program" too so I don't think it'll be such an issue.
But yes overall the first poe experience can be a bit daunting but it's not that bad. started in 3.9 so it's not that far back for my memory and i had not that many issue with it tbh. Then again it depend on who you sponsor but godgamers will get an hold of the game really quickly. To vanquish without perils is to triumph without glory.

More reasons for streamers to say we should be grateful a New Zealand corporation with a 200% RoI adds content to their only product every three months lol
