QoL Store Purchase: Currency Satchel
" I hope I haven't had a stroke. There has been no drastic personality change, back then I simply posted my productive comments elsewhere and troll ones here. I'm a CEO who's studying neurobiology and psychology - I have to be serious and focused most of my days, so there's a constant need for an opposite environment. Nowadays this place has exhausted it's potential for cheap humor for me as the audience doesn't change much and with it the comments and reactions have become less novel over time to a level where it's not entertaining anymore to post comments as such. " Well, you can "influence" that crippled parody of a market all the same having your default tabs, listing your pixel goods on the forum the old way. Say back around delve league or so i flipped certain influenced bases, listing them in a single "small" tab; even if i had these default tabs only, these players listing their items using premium tabs actually HELPED me to buy/resell their crap before they realize its real price. The only thing that mattered when selling them back was being online long enough. Okay, so another rhetorical question, even two: A) i play ssf since betrayal or so - what my stash tabs could influence here apart of some QoL managing my pixel loot nobody but me gives a rat's ass about? and B) how do you think ggg should pay their employees then if they suddenly become "ethical" enough to not sell tabs - by organizing some saturday begging sessions? Let me reveal a biiiiig secret to you. Time is money. I am sure you've never heard that one before. So if player a plays x amount of hours and player b plays x + y, player b has payed in opportunity cost to gain an advantage over player a. That cost may be measured in whatever that time spent elsewhere could have potentially brought - money, relationships, health, youtube...
So if you look at it from this point of view, time is yet another form of currency, and converting it to other forms of currency is no more unethical than changing your euros for dollars. Ergo using money to buy ingame advantages is the same as using time to earn those same advantages. But what about skill? Compared to skill, time and knowledge play a much bigger part in gaining the upper hand in poe. But lets looks at Starcraft 2. There its easy to see that skill plays the dominant role. Surely, at least in SC 2 there is no pay to win, right? Then think about all the time pro players spend practicing, all the costs for hardware, tutors, sparring partners etc. Do you think all those things dont cost money? Do you trully believe that a player with sponsors behind him has no advantage over someone of lesser means who is forced to spend his time to acquire more vital resources? Did I just defend pay to win? Yup, as long as the money doesn't come from illegal activities. Money is convertible value, its why you can have a nice shirt when you're skilled at baking bread and know nothing of sewing. Or why you can have a Darkscorn when you still havent gotten the memo that it's been made legion only for a while. As for that second sentence in the previous paragraph it may be extended to the issues of worldwide wealth distribution, unequal opportunity, unequal biology, capitalism vs alternatives etc. Well do you really care if the chaos that you just bought with your hard earned ex have been farmed by bots or chinese debts slaves? Do you care if you nice iphone has been made by childlabor? I at least certainly don't dare say I don't care in public. I trust you all are at least as caring as me, judging by the sales of chaos and ipods... :P |
