Defeat The Maven challenge not registering

Hi, so my friend invited me into his Maven's Writ for Defeat The Maven challenge completion. As he killed the boss, I received Defeat The Maven achievement + 1/4 defeat maven conditionally, but the challenge wasn't completed. Also didn't get Uncharted Realms points from the Maven kill. Weird for the achievement but not challenge to be completed since both have the same wording.
