PSA: Level 40 is the hard cap for gem levels

It isn't mentioned on the wiki, but apparently gems cannot exceed level 40. Tested by a dude here - https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/m9ctfm/how_i_wasted_30_ex_trying_to_achieve_the/
Apparently the cap used to be 30, but was raised to 40 at some point. Didn't find it mentioned on the wiki, at least not where I'd expect to see it - https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Skill_gem#Gem_levels It's not on the support gem page either. This is very build limiting, I could reach 72 gem level on my fire minion builds but can not because of this cap.

" this is just so hard for me to fathom. i probably have around 6000-8000 hours playing the game. ive done everything other than oshabi and final maven fight at least once. i feel like ive had some good characters and good gear but i can't even think of how i would go about getting gems past around 30 or so. |

" He was being sarcastic. As for getting gems above 30, the linked Reddit thread that found this explains how he got his gem to level 41 (or rather, tried to). |

They wiki explicitly doesn't state it, but for each gem it only shows stats up until level 40 where the level requirement is at 100.

" Wiki shows Empower reaching level 100 requirement at level 7 though, yet he still manages to take it higher than that. So I'm not sure if the required level is a clear enough sign that the gem can't be leveled further. Further levels on the Empower simply keep the level 100 requirement. |
