Maping with a non-zoomer character is a horrible experience
So most of the Ritual league I was playing with RF explosions character (started league with bleed bow for some early budget). So this RF has mediocre defenses (some immunities, 75% phys red, 76/75/75/75 ele ress, 6k life), but the fact that it destroys screens of mobs makes it very tanky during maping (basically kill monsters before they can kill you). Downside was it's a horrible boss killer, so I decided to level a summoner boss killer.
Tankines vise - it's supposed to be much tankier (70% phys, 88/88/88/75 ressists, 5.5k ES, some immunities and wall of summons). I've tried to map a bit with it - it was the worst experience I had in the long time. Mobs live longer than 0.1s, which means all sorts of damage spikes comes at me, even from white mobs. While completing a single T16 map (no extra dmg/crit mods), I got 1shoted 4 times. Luckily, this summoner will only be used for boss killing, and bosses dmg are much more predictable and avoidable than simple white map trash mobs. But this gave me a good reminder - don't play slow builds in poe (even if they are "tanky"), play only zoomer ones. Last bumped on Mar 1, 2021, 9:45:30 PM

Sounds like you dont have a ton of experience with summoners then. there are variants that do clear reasonably well
they just happen to not use zombies, skeletons or srs as their main minion. |

"Tanky" is probably the most abused word in POE history. There are so many 5k hp max res builds that are called tanky that i've stopped counting. General rule of thump, if you get oneshot more than once in 100 maps, you are not tanky at all.

Yeah, Especially since the definition tend to change with the meta.
I remember when people thought stacking armor and evasion would make a character tanky. Now I can't remember the last time someone took those two stats seriously on their own merits |

What the hell. How can a build which can't kill white mobs fast enough be good for "bossing"? Am I missing something here or the OP likes to spend minutes on bosses?

After the ES, arakaali and immortal call nerfs... I'd rather do a glass cannon that can take a punch or two rather than do a zdps "tank" build.

How do you even get good dps in this game
My OWN smite ranger char has the highest tooltip dps ive ever had and it takes FOREVER to kill bosses/rare/etc it can basically 1 hit white mobs and maybe magic mobs (idk prob 2 hit) but rare and bosses hp jump big time In fact i think my miners may do a better job at killing bosses even when i dont stack mines and the tooltip on them is lower (prob like 400-600k with 20 mines out) |

" It starts by ignoring the tooltip. Even for simple skills the tooltip is usually off by miles, for more complex skillinteractions you can completely forget about it. Use POB instead, that's somewhat accurate most of the time even though it's still not the whole story. Last edited by Baharoth15#0429 on Feb 24, 2021, 12:23:00 PM

It makes perfect sense that if your character struggles to clear map and keeps dying, it'll be a boss killer character.
