Game crashing regularly
|
I installed two different hardware monitoring softwares (HWMonitor and OpenHardwareMonitor) and both are showing the GPU spiking to 100% during PoE startup (or shortly after login) followed immediately by a crash. This seems to be the culprit. I'm unsure why it's spiking to 100%, however.
Via the NVIDIA Control Panel I attempted to change some global settings to limit this, without success. Vertical sync: changed to On Max Frame Rate: changed to 60 FPS Background Application Max Frame Rate: changed to 30 FPS |

For reference, I installed Warframe to test if there was a hardware issue and while it also spiked somewhat high (78% at startup) it is regularly hovering around 25% GPU utilization. I do not believe this to be a hardware problem. It is isolated purely to PoE.

I'm having the same type of crashes. 3-4 times per night.
Seems to have started from 13 Feb looking at event viewer. Chasing down the hardware route, I worked with the PC vendor for about an hour. We ran a stress test via FurMark and the GPU ran at 100% utilization for an hour at various resolutions without crashing.
We also used a software called DDU to fully remove all graphical drivers from the system. Rebooting into safe mode, I performed a clean install of the latest NVIDIA drivers for my graphics card and then rebooted again. I am still experiencing crashes unfortunately. At this point I have narrowed it down to only PoE. |

I read that you had an older driver installed earlier, you know which version?
I posted in another thread a couple of days ago to try the 457.51 version as it seems stable for me and other users. |

Make sure you are running the 64 bit client (Ctrl-Alt-Esc) . I had set my 64 bit client to run as administrator, but something about the latest update caused my system to try to run the 64 bit client but ended up running the 32 bit client instead. I turned off Run As Administrator in the file properties compatibility settings of PathofExile_x64Steam (yes, this setting persisted even after reinstalling POE) and now it runs the 64 bit client like it should.
I have been able to run a full map after this change. Before it would crash before getting 1/3 of the way through a map. Now my client crashes only once every 20 maps. So that is an improvement. But dying due to client crashes still means that I will have a very difficult time leveling above level 96. I'm not 100% sure this was the Cause of my crashes. I did a number of other things also including a clean install of my graphic Drivers, a Windows Update, A re-install of Path of Exile, and a Restore default of NVIDA Control Panel 3-D Settings customization for POE. But removing the run-as-admin on the 64bit file was the last thing I tried before things seemed to start working again. Last edited by Turtle69#1878 on Feb 26, 2021, 11:47:52 AM

" I tried 457.51 after I read that post but unfortunately I still had crashes. GGG asked me to upgrade to latest - still crashing. |
|
" I've used both the 32 and 64 bit clients, as well as the Steam client. I even went as far as updating the path in the shortcut file to the 64 bit client. I can give it a shot running as Administrator. |

Running as Administrator did not make a difference. This continues to be a PoE-specific problem unfortunately.

I had this crash twice in a 30min window when Delving. Temps are all under 70C including GPU hotspot & Video memory. I can map for 1hr+ or do back to back Heists with no problem.
Ryzen 5 3600 RX 6700 XT 2x8gb DDR4 3600mhz Memory has been stability tested to 200% using memtest pro, CPU runs perfectly fine for 1hr+ video renders, Asus realbench 30mins & other games such as Escape from Tarkov//Warzone & recently Days Gone for 2 hours+ while recording /w Radeon Relive so I HIGHLY doubt this is a system stability issue. You can see my system monitoring while gaming here: https://youtu.be/QnkQHprCkjw The PoE crash happened twice in the span of 1 hour while Delving with the same 'kernel' event. Game settings 3440x1440, Vulkan, Graphical Defaults. I was also running default 64bit EXE without any launcher options previously, currently testing with --noasync to see if stability improves.
