How much lightning damage is needed to shock bosses?
My lightning damage currently is: 164-3460
However, I barely shock bosses. Even when I double curse them with ele weakness and conductivity, I might during the course of a fight shock them once for like 1/2 of a second. If my average damage is 1812, and lets assume the two curses reduced the boss to 0% resists, bosses such as brutus/grotto boss/etc would have to have 200,000+ life which I'm pretty sure they don't have. Can anyone correct my fallacies or provide me with enlightenment? IGN: TsuruyaNyro

Doesn't matter how much lightning damage you do on a normal hit it's all about the crit. Because you never mentioned crit rate or crit damage I wonder if you are aware that shock stacks only apply when you crit and deal lightning damage = to just over 1% of targets health.
So if mr brutus clone has 200k hp hitting 2k+ damage every hit won't apply any charges what so ever unless you crit. quoted from the wiki "Status Ailments can also be triggered by skills such as Glacial Hammer, Burning Arrow and Chance to Ignite. When skills such as these trigger Status Ailments, the amount of relevant damage done is used to calculate the duration just as it would be in the case of a critical hit. Because critical hits tend to do more damage than normal hits that can trigger a Status Ailment, the effects of a non-critical Status Ailment are often less severe. Such effects can still be quite powerful if the relevant damage type is very high." |

one of Krips chars doesnt use crit (resolute technique)and he stil shocks everything around him. he even says he uses resolute tecnique cause he doenst need crits because of the shock effect.

that is because of static blows node, which adds 20% shock chance to any of your attacks

" uhm you contradict yourself there pal. you dont need to crit, but the elemental dmg needs to be high enough to trigger it (so crits can trigger it way easier) ign: AdmiralThrawnx (Ons), Diavolixxx/Leavemealoneplx (HC)

" You actually do need to crit unless you're using something that specifically says "% chance to shock the enemy on on hit with lightning damage", whether that be the static blows passive, or conductivity curse, or the arc skill, or whatever. Without something like that, you'll never trigger a status effect without a crit. The wiki was just explaining that even if you shock with these, it'll usually be a much weaker shock than a crit-induced shock, since non-crits do less damage. OP: The minimum duration for any status effect is 300 ms, with the duration being calculated at 276 ms per 1% max life dealt as lightning damage. So this means in order to trigger shock status at all, you need to do at least 1.09% of their hp in lightning damage. Then you will shock them for 300 ms, less than a third of a second... which will be largely useless. That's still too short a duration for you to take advantage of it or shock stack unless you're hitting them with lightning damage very very quickly. So, let's say you want to shock for a minimum of 1 second. This would make it reasonable to land other attacks in that time and possibly stack shock 2 or 3 times. In this case, you would need to deal lightning damage equivalent to 3.62% of their max hp. With your 164-3460 lightning damage (1812 average), you're looking at a boss having araound 50,055 hp for you to be able to land a 1 second shock. The method for triggering the Shock doesn't matter, crit or ability. Point is you get 276ms per 1% max life dealt as lightning. However if the resulting shock would last less than 0.3 secs, it is ignored completely.
Hence you need to trigger a Shock AND deal more than ~1.1% of target's max life to get a Shock. Even then, the duration is based on the damage, and if your attack speed is not up to it, the Shock will wear off before you hit again anyway. Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.
