Maps for Dummies?

I did finally find a video that explained it enough to sort of get started but the problem with googling PoE stuff is that every video you find is from wildly different years so I never know what is accurate or relevant information anymore. PoE is confusing enough on it's own without adding in irrelevant or outdated info. I think what I found is from 2018 so I assume it's accurate enough.

This is a real challenge with a game that updates the content so frequently.

Something you might not know is that the atlas got a major overhaul in Dec 2019, so about 14 months ago. The "rules" of the new atlas got tweaked quite a bit between Dec 2019 and Mar 2020. I would say any videos before Mar or Apr of 2020 are much more likely to contain bad info. Anything since last April should be more or less accurate.

No I didn't know that which is sort of why I was posting here rather than just "googling" (I tried that). The problem for a noob in PoE however is that if I look for only recent videos it might have the most accurate info but newer videos are also much more likely to assume a certain level of knowledge and will gloss over details that explain a lot of things which is confusing and sends me into a dozen different directions trying to understand other things. Older videos might be more noob friendly but might have outdated or inaccurate info. Researching basic shit for PoE is sort of a nightmare tbh.

Anyway, thanks for the info. Exactly the sort of useful info I was looking for. Will see if I can find more updated and noob friendly versions!

Well I assume it also affects difficulty? That was the main thing I was trying to gauge in determining what I should be focusing on. If I should just go to a particular level/tier that is on par with my level or if completing the atlas means I have to do the older ones first anyway.

I have just been updating my T1 maps to T2 and running those but I honestly can't even tell if my map is updating or what is happening tbh. It just looks the same when I look at it before and after running a map.

My bad, difficulty seems self explanatory to me, if it's too hard - do lower lvl content to improve your character until you can do what you struggle with.
You can see map completion on the atlas. Every map has 2 checkmarks first for completing the map, second for completing awakening bonus for the map. In the middle you can see what you get from completion and how many maps you've completed in total.

Guide i linked has the info on what to do, like you need to do t3 maps to spawn citadels. While doing that you will get conqueror spawns and when you kill them you will get watchstones you can socket into citadels you found

Ziz has a bunch of guides for newer/new-ish players that go through all of the game mechanics and such.
I'd suggest having a look at some of his vids they might be useful to you.

I haven't done ant T3 maps yet I don't think. Also, I'm in standard so I think some of that stuff like the watchstones are only in the league? I had actually already found that reddit thread before and while it does sort of make sense it makes a lot of references to things I don't know about. It's probably better for someone who has a baseline of knowledge I'm guessing.

As for the difficulty I'm not sure anything in PoE is self explanatory. lol. Again, was just trying to figure out if there was some loose correlation to character level and map level/tier or something as a starting point and how that played into the atlas completion.

Anyway, thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually or get bored again and play something else. lol.

Watchstones, citadels, conquerors and the bonuses Nub was describing are all in standard. It's core atlas mechanics.

Everything atlas related in videos from the last 9 months will be the same in standard.

Main difference is that every league you start over with no stones. Standard you get to keep your stones from league to league.
