How I fixed my constant crashes
Hi fellow exiles,
After experiencing my worst league launch since 2013, I almost gave up the game because It was unplayable for me. I've made it to A8 the first weekend with almost 300 crashes to desktop and I was loosing my sanity. Sometimes, I didn't even made it to the login screen before getting kick back to desktop. When I progress normally, I am at blood aqueduct the first night of the release and not being able to progress is really frustrating, So I've started to investigate. Most people told me that my GPU was probably failing after all theses crashes. I had doubt about that, I've been playing others games with no problem at all. So, I've installed a recent game and played 1 hours with no issues at all. Weird, if my GPU was failing I wouldn't be able to do that. I've decided to stress test my GPU with Furmark. My card is a evga geforce gtx 980 ti sc+ gaming acx 2.0+ and I have a 2560x1440 monitor, so I've started the test at 2560x1440, Furmark insta crashed. I've dropped the resolution to 1920x1080 and still got an insta crash with Furmark. I took out my GPU and ran Furmark on my Intel HD graphics at 2560x1440, the image is a little bit clunky but the test holds, what my 980 ti couldn't do. I reinstalled the GPU in the case and installed EVGA precision X1. I downclocked my GPU factory settings speed on the GPU and the ram at the maximum the software let me do it. Like this : https://imgur.com/enc3nJS I run Furmark at 2560x1440, the test holds. I've reinstalled PoE and believe it or not I was able to play for a full afternoon with zero crash at all. Better than that, my FPS had doubled and the game had never runs smoother for me. I still can't believe it. I cannot explained exactly why it is doing this, but I think that some video cards are unstable at the factory speed when it is used at full capacity. Maybe this fix won't help everyone, but I'm so happy I can now play the game, I had to share. Good luck and stay safe exiles ! Last bumped on Jan 25, 2021, 10:44:27 AM
