Death penalty on a game like POE doesnt make sense

People complaining about exp loss in a game where exp means next to nothing be like.... LUL

There are only 2 reasons to even want to hit level 100.

1. You have 1000 exalts to spare so you play a aura stacking build
2. You're doing it for the achievement

Chances are if you're complaining about the exp penalty, you're neither of these two.
Death penalty is good. GGG is smart, I'm sure they could come up with something better than the current experience point penalty though.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!
I think that the death xp penalty is NOT the problem.
The problem is the huge aoumt of xp you need to level beyond L92 or L94.

The result is most players don't do that - and I am sure I won't too.

Even at L87 I start to play safer regions when I am at >50% of a level.
I don't like that, you should have a motivation to try increasing difficulties.
Loosing many hours or days of playing for trying a boss is much too much.

I like the Heist 'contraband' thing because it's very specific and follows the theme.

The general XP penalty is much more vague. Since XP is gained by doing basically anything, it translates to "the penalty is that you'll have to play the game more". And if playing the game is a bad thing...what does that say about the game?

That you don't like the game.

On Topic :

1. Death penalty is not as brutal as in D2. HC penalty is not as brutal as in D2 were you died and lose everything.
2. There is much more content than just farming on thing for XP until you bleed your eyes out.
3. You can totally avoid the death penalty by playing normal white T16 maps or , blue T16 maps that hit like jello but gives good xp due to not being restricted in xp.
4. You can actually do Rotations , much like Baals repetitive and not fun, but you get loot and XP.
5. Even with the death penalty loss removed , you still wouldn't hit 100 in a league. Because 1 you don't need to ( most builds are capped at 90 , while 92 is easily reachable. I haven't even fought sirus and I am not near 20 watch stones and still am close to 93 (true I am a necromancer but that's my curse of liking it, but in my defense I reached the same levels with ED and bleeding gladiators, and almost with melees (I don't really like melee just sue me) ). Level 100 is a vanity for which people invest much like in any kind of gear. Those extra points and life don't make much of a difference in being killed or killing.

Heist on the other hand is brutal and punishing ( you can just don't do it if you don't like it, this is the reason why I still play with a shield instead of two wands and if it gets even more punishing I'll start going high on defense and low on damage) and even more brutal and punishing with crashes, bugs and over-tunned mobs or NPC's that don't do the job while you get swarmed.

I mean not me personally; I didn't design the death penalty. But yeah, that's why I always feel it's a bit odd.
You used to delevel on sc =D
You have to remember to chase and catch your dreams, because if you don't, your imagination will live in empty spaces, and that's nowhere land.

So during heist if you die during lockdown you lose all item and your member doesnt even get exp.. so you lose both time and resource gaining nothing... ..

Heist is a "Loot Fest."

To offset that and to offset the possible "Monty Haul" effect in difficult Heists/whatsits, they added a particularly crushing penalty for failure...

But, and here's the catch that keeps you coming back...

"WOW, LOOKIT ALL THAT COOL STUFF I HAD IN MY HANDS AND ALMOST GOT TO TAKE WITH ME! I BETTER RUN ANOTHER HEIST!!!!!!!"

/sigh

This is what "Heist" is -

You say 'most people don't do that' (level to 100) like it's a bad thing. It's not.

People hit 100 in HCSSF inside a week. I'd argue that they need to increase the XP requirement even more past 95 or 96.

Maybe GGG should start paying salary for those people, because obviously they are working full-time for the company.
