Can you get banned by using VPN?
Hi,
I just started playing this since the start of the new league - Heist. and I love this game. I have read a lot of forum posts, wiki, and watched some Youtube videos to help me enjoy the game more. Upon the third day of the new league, however, my original account was banned. For using "Third Party Software". but I wasn't. I didn't even think of cheating in this game. The only reason I can only think of was my work's VPN (I work from home). since I get a lot of emails to re-login my account so that I could play (The game thinks I'm in a new location). I already sent an email to the support team ever since the day of the ban. Up until now, I didn't get any response at all. (please don't tell me to email again. I already had 10 emails sent to them.) I've read on some old forum posts that they usually have a justifiable reason to ban someone and that they don't reply if they are "sure" of their decision. Now, I moved to my Girlfriend's place to play this game and I don't use that shitty VPN anymore. But I'm just genuinely confused and want to know if this was the case. I enjoy the game a lot though. " Actually the conventional wisdom would be to only send one. To ensure staff responding to you have all of the information they need, e-mails from the same customer are grouped into the same ticket and queued in order of how long you've been waiting (which is determined by when you last contacted them). In other words, each subsequent e-mail effectively resets your position in the queue, making responses take longer. " That would be news to me. My understanding is that they always respond at least once - though there's a limit on how many times they'll reply before considering the matter resolved and advising you that they are not prepared to discuss it further. " That's a cool milestone! Congrats. :) Unfortunately, I do think this is just a matter of waiting for them to respond. --- I am not GGG staff, but I don't believe using VPNs is bannable or that they would be construed as third-party software. While the question doesn't seem helpful, I would ask "are you sure?" as there have been cases in the past where folks would use, say, a programmable mouse and seem to sincerely believe that it didn't count as cheating. To be clear, third-party = not GGG. GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

" At work hours: Every time I log-in, I switch to my VPN, then I log out. Switch off my VPN. In those intervals, GGG sends me an email when I try to login to POE. " I did not know of this haha. Thank you Thanks for your help! I've seen your name in the forums so many times when I was lurking around for answers. Thanks!! I'm already enjoying my run in this account so I'm fine with waiting. (But of course, I would prefer to get my original since my main email is there) Last edited by GiRie#3645 on Sep 28, 2020, 5:44:37 PM

" I don't even know how to use those. I use a regular mouse. I don't use anything to boost or use any type of software to play any games, as I am not that tech savy when it comes to tweaking games performances. This is actually the first game that told me that I use a third party software. More the reason why I'm so confused. Last edited by GiRie#3645 on Sep 28, 2020, 8:16:24 PM

You also should take a look at any other program you may have been running in the background. VPN’s have caused issues in the past. Generally speaking for PoE I advise against it, but if you are going to play on a VPN make sure to contact support and request they deactivate the security measure that detects location. If the VPN pings a new location every x seconds, the server may receive too many commands and cit nature it as a ToS violation. I don’t really know though.

I tend to have to unlock my account when I start playing PoE for the day, and then I'm good for the rest of the day. Not sure if that's going to be grounds for an eventual ban

Grounds for a ban, no. Something that may cause the server to assume you are doing something bannable, possibly. I can only assume it is subjective to how the server and VPN interact.

Once I get unbanned, i'll consider asking them to remove the location lock. Thank you

" Sorry; I’m not sure I follow. You stated you had e-mailed GGG multiple times regarding the issue and expressed a desire not to be told to continue sending e-mails. I clarified folks wouldn’t be suggesting this and why we wouldn’t. I’m not sure how the text following the quote pertains to the quote - though admittedly I didn’t sleep last night, so that might be one factor. GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

" Oh sorry, English is not my first language so I apologize for not making it clearer. I meant this was before I was banned. Every time I connect and disconnect from VPN I would get a new login code and would get an auto email from GGG about it. |
