you dont need to feel dumb nor apologize, many people have came to forums with similar problems. Game is complex and there are lot of things to be confused about or to do wrong.. at least you are willing to learn and dont blame the game for your mistakes..

Really, it’s a breath of fresh air to have an honest question on these forums to have an honest question like that. This game is not very beginner friendly, due to years of it increasing in size and scope every few months. Feel free to keep coming back as I suspect you’ll wind up with many more questions.

Since you are new, two things common for new players to to realize: (1) While leveling you want your elemental resistances at 75% (ignore chaos for now). Once you start Act 6 and again at maps you will suffer a -30% resistance debuff, and monsters will start hitting much harder if you don’t recover the resistance. Resistance is the #1 priority for leveling, especially new players. You can get this on gear, from the crafting bench in your hideout, and on the passive tree. (2) Link a single “skill gem” with “support” gems. Skill gems are the abilities you use, and support gems amplify them in some way. Make sure there is at least one word in yellow on the skill/support gems that match, otherwise they will not be compatible with each other.
