I was sympathetic. I tried to help. You refused to try learn the basics. I lose patience with people who don’t even try. You can’t even tell me what skill you want to use.

" mark has been helping players with builds and game mechanics for many years, iirc hes been around since I joined (open beta) this game is complex, takes some time to learn, and there are no easy braindead templates that just let you push the "I win button" without any solid setup of your gear or skills.. and it becomes less and less forgiving further you go.. honestly, act 3 Dominus is super easy for anyone who has at least the very basic understanding of what he is doing.. Skill gems work better when linked to appropriate support gems. Having two support gems on a skill gem would roughly double your damage. Having another two more would again double over that. But usually during the acts on your first char, it is normal that we will find it hard to get more than 3 or 4 LINKED sockets. An item may have 4 sockets but if they are not LINKED then it makes little difference. You can spend fusing orbs to link items but they are precious rare drops.
How do you know if a support gem is appropriate for the skill? You gotta read the description of the support gem. Some skills like aura skills, you don't want to link them with any supports cause otherwise they will reserve even more mana. In this game, you have to improve your efficiency by focusing on one or two main skills only, and even then, these two should complement each other. For example, any attack skill and Ancestral Warchief totem. If you want to be fire-themed build, then focus everything on improving fire damage. The rest should be secondary skills that STILL benefit your character such as movement skills, curses, auras, debuffing skills like Wave of Conviction. If you want to be a caster then focus on spells and skip attacks. IMHO, casters are usually more beginner friendly than attack builds, because they get more damage by leveling up their gems as opposed to finding, buying, or crafting a better sword, etc. whereby some crafting knowledge is required. (There are a few builds that combine attacking and casting spells but you will get to know those eventually...) Most importantly, download a lootfilter if you haven't already do so. It will highlight the items that you should pick up. 3 or 4-linked items are relatively valuable for first char. It is normal to fail your first few characters. After that, you can start following your favourite build guide online. Last edited by jeerinho#7997 on Aug 25, 2020, 9:48:43 PM
