Hellblade, Tabletop-style Virtual Reality support for Path of Exile, please!
If you have not tried Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice in VR Tabletop mode; simply watching a YouTube video is not enough to form a valid opinion. It needs to be experienced fully in an actual VR headset to begin to grasp the implications it has for the RPG genre. If this thread exists already, apologies for the duplicate.
I've been playing Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice in Virtual Reality with the Tabletop mode enabled. It is unlike anything I've ever experienced in video games before! I am absolutely convinced that it is the way for Path of Exile to step up and show the world that aRPG's can move forward with upcoming technology just as well as shooters and traditional RPG's. Some would say this could only ever be for novelty's sake and that people would only ever use this every now and then for short periods of time. I however am convinced that with the current rate of VR development, headsets will within the next few years become light and comfortable enough for much longer gaming sessions than the current headsets offer. Already, the market penetration of VR headsets is such that new headsets are perpetually on back-order, and with better headsets on the horizon it will only multiply. Path of Exile should act now and be ready to welcome a new generation of VR players when that time comes. Yup VR and AR are the future of computing visual interface. I guess for gaming it would look something like this, this is AR by the way, which I think would be awesome for PoE.
=> The Machines AR (Directive Games) ARKit The problem I think is the affordability of these systems. The PC requirements would cost thousands of dollars plus the VR headsets. But once these tech matures and the components required becomes affordable and cheap, and the games industry embraces it, then yes it would be amazing. Filthy Casual Scrub. " tbh the cost of entry for VR isn't that high anymore. Pretty much all modern graphics cards can handle VR. I have an Oculus Quest myself, which is a pretty cheap headset at $400, a geforce 980, i7 4790k with 16GB RAM and there's no VR game I haven't been able to play yet. For example I enjoyed the hell out of Half Life: Alyx! :) Granted, that's an relatively cheap entry level setup - and you can scale it quite a lot in terms of quality and price if so inclined. But still, the cost of entry is going down, very fast. |

400 dollars is still a lot of money for a lot of people, especially given that for that amount of money, you can almost get a complete setup that is able to handle PoE at medium quality FullHD. Maybe not quite, given that you also need peripherals and a monitor.
Also, a GTX 980 is a more powerful graphics card than probably a lot of players (including me) have in their rigs. It is pretty niche, and probably will stay pretty niche for quite a while. Remove Horticrafting station storage limit. Last edited by Char1983#2680 on Sep 16, 2020, 6:47:02 AM

Yup it is still quite expensive for limited budget people like me. For now there is yet no overly compelling reason to get VR except if you have the extra budget for it and really likes VR or if your work requires it.
I was trying, made a few extra work transactions to save up so I can upgrade my rig, was somewhat looking at VR headsets, but then 2020 happened and well.. *sigh*. But I am excited and looking forward when VR adoption will be the norm and more softwares, games, internet sites and electronic media will support it. It is I believe the next part of our internet, data processing/consumption, and gaming evolution. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later. Filthy Casual Scrub.
