[3.11] Earthquake Warcry Berserker (RETIRED)

I'm retiring this guide as of 3.11.

Please feel free to use the template and ask questions. If you need help, I'll try and answer.

3.12 changes:

-> Manually pathing to Glacing blows now.
-> Dropped a few life nodes to do that.

Note: Please post all your questions in this thread or come by the stream, don't pm me in game. Make sure your profile is PUBLIC before asking for help so your character is visible. If you have issues with the trees and you're loading them into the poe website, don't. Import them into Path of Building. Please check out the FAQ section before asking questions.

I don't claim my guides to be original or super efficient. I write guides to share characters I'm fond of.

Gameplay on youtube, or if I stream.

=======================================================================

Pros:
Okay map clearer.
Insane single target/extremely tanky. Your pick.
Easy to get going.

Cons:
Gearing might be difficult post Harvest.
Prone to be nerfed.

Introduction
Spoiler

This is a pure physical earthquake build using a staff, glancing blows, 3 warcries and berserker ascendancy node War Bringer. It's alright at clearing, and pretty good at everything else. If you enjoy the playstyle, this is a very strong build.

You can play this is a Berserker or a Juggernaut, for over the top damage or over the top defences respectively. I recommend playing the zerker version on softcore unless you're planning to push levels.

I will talk briefly about the Jugg version in its own section. The Pob contains both jugg and zerk variants.

PoB
Spoiler

I'm using LocalIdentity's fork

https://pastebin.com/yL2NmCjG

The Pob has both zerker and jugg variants. Simply switch between the trees at the bottom to change.

Final Tree

Ascendancy
Spoiler

War Bringer > Crave the Slaughter > Aspect of Carnage > Rite of Ruin

Pantheon

Brine King and Ralakesh.

Gear slot analysis:
Spoiler

Disclamer: Harvest is broken and this level of gear has not been normal in poe pre 3.11. I have not explained the crafting process/tricks for each item because harvest will most likely not go core in its current form. If you're interested, let me know and I'll try and help.

Weapon:
Spoiler

Judgement staff (for the spell block) with the highest pdps you can get. Attack speed is not important, the quality crit craft is.

If you're on SC, you can often get fractured bases for cheap and craft from there. You need i83 for merciless and dictator's.

Budget option: Hegemony's Era.

Helmet:
Spoiler

Buy/Craft one with life and nearby enemies take increased phys. You need an elder base (ilvl 85) for it. Everything else is luxury.

Enchant - 24% EQ area.
Damage is overkill anyway.

Budget option: Any rare helmet with life and resists/accuracy.

Chest:
Spoiler

The 2 useful mods we're looking for are:

-> Enemies you Kill Explode, dealing 3% of their Life as Physical Damage
-> Attacks have +(1.1–1.5)% to Critical Strike Chance

Budget option: Any rare chest, Belly of the Beast. Tabula Rasa.

Gloves:
Spoiler

Corruptions - Enfeeble on hit. +1 gems is really good to have for enlighten 5. Attacks crit is obviously great.

Budget option: Anything with life, resists.

Boots:
Spoiler

Lots of life, resists, as much movement speed as you can get.

Enchant - 2% life regen if hit recently.

Bonus: Tailwind from hunter boots and/or Elusive from redeemer boots. They are extremely easy to craft this league.

Amulet:
Spoiler

Life, flat phys, multi, res/accuracy.

Anoint Tenacity.

Budget option: Anything with life, res, int.

Belt:
Spoiler

Pretty much BIS for any phys/phys to ele conversion attack build. Look for 40% max roll and 30% min roll.

Budget option: Anything with life, res.

Rings:
Spoiler

Life, accuracy, resists. This is also a good place to get mana leech. It's either rings or jewels.

Steel best base. Flat phys to attacks/attack speed are a bonus.

Budget option: Anything with life, res.

Jugg:
Spoiler

For the jugg version you can pretty much check out the tree changes and ascendancy nodes in the pob.

The only additional defensive layer I have on the jugg (other the base jugg ones) is divine flesh with capped chaos res. You can get this on the zerker as well but you'd need much higher chaos res on your gear.

The jugg version is essentially unkillable even in T16 fully juiced delirium maps. Highly recommended if you wanna level to 100.

Ascendancy: Unstoppable > Unflinching > Unbreakable > Unrelenting
Pantheon: Lunaris and Ralakesh.

FAQ:
Spoiler

Mana leech
Spoiler
Get phys leeched as mana on a jewel/one of your rings. I don't have it on the tree.

Mana issues
Spoiler
Drop an aura, like blood and sand till you get a higher level enlighten/-mana crafts/get Tireless on the tree.

Warcry rotation?
Spoiler
Keep enduring cry and seismic cry up during mapping. Spam enduring cry off cooldown/when you need it, but at the very least keep endurance charges up. Use Seismic cry whenever you run out of exerted attacks. Remember that Seismic cry's damage increases with each subsequent exerted attack, so generally want to only use it again after the 5th attack.

Intimidating cry is used whenever you need more damage. When bossing, I ideally do this on repeat:

EC > IC > SC > attack x3 > IC > attack x2

Nice guide. I started a Jugg version a couple of days ago. It’s heaps of fun, deletes bosses and doesn’t cost too much to get going.

Thanks, you should give berserker a shot too sometime.

Hey I just found your build while looking for a good EQ setup and I have a few questions.

1. Why put the timeless jewel at the top getting elemental damage when we can put it by resolute technique for armor in order to get divine flesh?

2. I also see that your trees are for about 98+ and I was wondering what order of importance you would place on the nodes at the end. Basically asking for a leveling tree progression, with mandatory nodes you need by at least lvl 90.

3. I also see that you recommend the zerker variant more so than the jugg, and was wondering how you would justify that from gameplay feel standpoint. Is it simply more fluid even though you get one shot occasionally?

4. Do you think fist of war is better than pulverize? I only ask because I don't see many people using it since it's not up for most of the time. Does it feel better in practice than on paper?

Thanks for the guide, I did find it well written, and easy to follow, going to start up the zerker variant today for those big booms!

Glorious vanity changes the passives in its radius, you no longer get ele dmg or armour once you socket it. Using it near the RT slot, vaals the nearby passives you actually want.

On softcore I generally just sacrifice life/defensive/jewel nodes till I reach higher levels. I would prioritize getting the warcry and staff nodes first so it actually feels good to play. In short, either pick generic dmg nodes/life nodes to drop upto your needs.

This is a lvl 93 tree: http://poeurl.com/cYOl

Zerker feels better to play because of higher ats and more dps. I don't get one shot very often with my gear. The jugg is fine to play but feels a bit slower on bosses, when you're looking to zoom.

I honestly don't know which is more dps. I think it has to do with how you play. For me, it's a new gem that feels fine, and has a less mana multi than pulverize so I'm using it.

would this work with dual wielding?

No. Not EQ anyway. Other slam skills might work but they're typically designed better for two handers so I doubt it. Two handers and one handers have very similar trees, so you can pob it with a skill and try it out.
